I would guess that this is part of the overall terrorist warning levels. It takes a long time to mobilize the guard, so I would guess that this is standard security procedures and not a specific threat.

Keep us informed, but I must keep this away from my kids. Don't want them worrying about their grandma.

A long time to mobilize local guard? No way. A couple of days at the most. However, I would bet that NG nation wide have been told to stand by and be ready.

Time is relative. I consider a couple of days a long time if there was a direct threat.

Glenn Beck mentioned a specific threat (about 9:45am this morning) about Palo Verde. I also think ALL plants are on high alert, but why would he single out Palo Verde?
My uncle works there so it caught my attention when he said it.

He just mentioned it again (10:45 am). Said the National Guard is surrounding the plant.

Being an engineer and former designer of such
Nuk plants and knowing what a brick sh*t house
they are, part of me wants to say "go ahead,
make my day".
Me does not believe that terrorists could do
much damage to any US designed NUK plant compared
to, say, hitting a public place such as a
shopping mall, etc......

I haven't found anything else about this. I've been scanning news web sites around Arizona...nothing.

I heard the NG were there recently, pry have been for a week or two. He pry singled it out b/c it's the largest in the U.S. I live in Scottsdale, so hopefully it's just routine.

I'm an Arizona native. If they think Texas is tough, wait till they tussle with people who live in 120 degrees and think there is a chill in the air!

Thank you for the links AZLiberty & Dane. It sounds like the National Guard has been there since Tuesday as a result of the threat level being bumped to 4. Glenn Beck gave me the impression that this was "breaking."

On Tuesday, Arizona Governor Janet 'Reno' Napolitano deployed National Guard troops to various critical locations in Arizona in response to the new "High"/Orange threat level.
Of course, she'll send National Guard troops all over the place except for our WIDE OPEN border!
In other news, Border Patrol has reassigned their agents away from the border fences to cover the crossing points instead. New security measures at the crossing points have caused long delays. More personnel are needed in order to provide less inconvenience to tourists and shoppers re-entering the U.S. In the meantime, no one is watching the borders!!!
Am I angry/outraged about this? Naaahh...what gave you that idea?
Then, the Civil Homeland Defense bunch out of Tombstone, AZ decided to release some militia manifesto stating that they will stop, detain, and use "force if necessary" to secure the border. Ranch Rescue just had 2 members arrested for allegedly pistol-whipping an illegal alien pair from El Salvador. American Border Patrol has condemned CHD's new modus operandi and a feud is developing between all of the groups.
So, the Federal Government is moving the agents away from the border fence. The Arizona Governor is derelict in her duty and refuses to assign National Guard to the unguarded border fence. And the local "neighborhood watch" groups keeping an eye on the border fence are losing whatever solidarity they gained over the past months - starting to feud amongst themselves - and will be less effective for it.
I'm thinking about putting a big sign up on the unguarded border fence that says in several languages including arabic:
Welcome to the unguarded U.S. border!
<--- Potential terrorists and enemy combatants to the left
Illegal aliens and criminals to the right --->
Please proceed in an orderly manner - no pushing - you're all going to get in.

What's breaking is that the threat is specific. Gov. Napolitano (D) and the Palo Verde PR department previously denied that there was any specific threat. Bill Gertz and now Department of Energy Secretary Abraham have confirmed that there was a specific terrorist threat to Palo Verde.
