Peggy Maher of the 500 block of Strathmore Road, March 10, expressed concerns to the Haverford Commissioners about air traffic. She said that years ago, she and her children would sleep out in the back yard listening to the sounds of nature. Now, she said, in the nice weather, the sounds of planes overhead are so distracting that she closes windows to try to keep the noise out.

I'd be interested in finding out (not that it makes any difference) who was there first--she or the airport. If the airport was there when she moved in, she should STFU.

Then she should be really happy that she doesn't live in Baghdad tonight.

Runways 17/35 are the shortest @ PHL. About 5,400 ft - they are used by commuters flights - ie; DASH8's, SAAB 340's. I think use the same approach as always. Big deal.

I'm in Haverford, and we are not close to the airport. I'm not noticing an increase in large planes - I recall seeing the smaller commuter type planes when I'm at the ballfield. No biggie. Doesn't it depend on the winds, regarding which flight path they take?

I'd say her house was there first. Lots of wonderful old homes where she lives, built around the early 20's, 30's. We are at least 20 minutes from the airport - if no traffic.

She may have bought an existing house--the house was there, but perhaps she wasn't.

Exactly, what was there first? Her house or the airport?

Her complaint is that the flight path is new.

The only air traffic changes I've seen are the increased traffic near the air base. If all the airlines go bust, this lady's noise problem will abate.

Our former mayor of Toledo, OH made a suggestion years ago that the real estate around airports should be made available to the deaf people.
I think he was serious, but the laughter that followed made him give a televised tearful appology to the city.

Sorry to hear about your ex-boyfriend. I went to Swarthmore, which is very close to Haverford and even more liberal, and I became more conservative.

Chances are, however, that the airport was already there prior to her purchasing the home.

Chances are, however, that the airport was already there prior to her purchasing the home. It would be 50-50. Philly International started in 1925.

Took him to see the 'Music Man' and he complained through the whole thing how it wasn't multicultural enough. Not fun. LOL
