They said that the story is developing (breaking hard?); and E.D. said 'this COULD BE' the beginning of Allied operations.

Now mentioned on the BBC News ticker at
http://news.bbc.co.uk , they don't put anything on their news page unless they are fairly sure of their facts. I'll keep an eye out for more ...
To: lorrainer
CNN/PMSNBC still silent on the issue.

Sky News updated :
US troops have entered the demilitarised zone on the Iraqi border with Kuwait, according to reports.
This comes as planes in the gulf get ready to attack Iraq. One RAF Tornado has been armed with what is believed to be a cruise missile.
Sky News defence expert Francis Tusa said the weapon, slung below the belly of the plane, was a Stormshadow.
The Stormshadow is the RAF's air-launched cruise missile, as opposed to missiles like the Tomahawk which are usually fired from land or sea.
Tusa said the missile fitted to the Tornado was live, not a practice weapon.
He said live weapons were only loaded onto aircraft hours before they were expected to be used.
He said the Stormshadow was more proof that war will break out soon.

From Haaretz Flash News: 13:28 Kuwaiti security sources: U.S.-led forces move into demilitarised zone on Iraq-Kuwait border
To: All
U.S. Forces Move Into Kuwait-Iraq DMZ -SourcesWed March 19, 2003 06:32 AM ET KUWAIT (Reuters) - Kuwaiti security sources said on Wednesday that U.S.-led forces had moved into the demilitarized zone (DMZ) that straddles the Iraq-Kuwait border, apparently in preparation for an imminent attack on Iraq.
"Troops walked into the DMZ this morning at around 11 a.m. (3 a.m. EST)," a Kuwaiti security force source working in the Umm Qasr area in the east of the zone said. "American convoys are still driving toward Umm Qasr."
Tens of thousands of U.S. and British troops are in the desert in north Kuwait preparing to attack. President Bush has said his forces will invade if Iraqi President Saddam Hussein does not flee by early Thursday.
A U.S. military spokesman said he could not confirm or deny that troops were inside the DMZ. A British army spokesman said only that soldiers had taken up "forward battle positions."
The DMZ extends three miles into Kuwait and six miles into Iraq. It was not clear how far in the troops were. United Nations observers pulled out of the DMZ on Monday. Small groups of engineers slipped in last week to cut gates in the fence but combat units were now in place there, the sources said.
