"Before" Image of Saddam's Palace

The caption provided by SpaceImaging.com: "Baghdad, Iraq - This one-meter resolution image was collected by Space Imaging's IKONOS satellite on Oct. 7, 2002. The image shows the Memorial of the Unknown Solder (upper right) and the Sijood Palace with its peacock-shaped gardens along the Tigris River (lower left). The Sijood Palace was the first Presidential site to be inspected by U.N. authorities under U.N. resolution 1441 adopted on Nov. 8, 2002. IKONOS satellite imagery is being used by U.N. agencies as an inspection tool."

The picture from the ground looks as if the "memorial" could easily be diguising a satelite dish and a radio antenna.

Here are some pictures I found of a parade that SH had in the beginning of year.
It look like the parade was on the grounds of the palace in the satellite picture.
note the stripes on the ground under the tanks, These stripes can be clearly seen in the satellite view.
It looks like 2 cranes are holding up the poster of SH. These cranes can be seen in the satellite view on the left and right of the parade grounds. In the satellite view, it looks like they are touching.
I found this picture interesting, not for the statue, but the fact that the jets appear to be refueling (or one is getting a tow). I didn't look at the satellite view for the statue, but bet it is in there.

The image shows the Memorial of the Unknown Solder They have a memorial for the unknown "solder"? Wow, the metallurgist's union must be really strong in Iraq...
