Flags up!
Posted on 03/18/2003 6:37:28 AM PST by ErnBatavia
...Just a reminder that it's time to get those American flags all ready for hoisting.
Since our area is properly illuminated, mine went up within 10 minutes of last night's Presidential Address....it's up for the duration.

I'd like to get a poster that says "We Support Our Troops"... Go to Republican National Committee and click on the link on the right for the "George Bush Store." You can order signs and stickers there.

Our Old Glory has been waving for a long time and under cover, so it does not come down even during rain. Make sure you get a yard sign with "Support our President - Support our Troops."

I guess I need to go get a spotlight so I can fly it around the clock.

"....maybe on the garage door". Just like that movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, they painted a Greece flag over their garage door. Not a bad idea for a good American flavor.

We were flying our flag every day BEFORE 9-11. It has a light on it at night, too.

My home is on our family farm, about 1/2 mile off the main highway. :)

Those little high intensity Malibu-style spotlights work well; I've seen those on occasion.

My flag has flown for 8 years, being replaced when necessary. Why take it down and put it away?

You took your flag down? Mine has been up since shortly after 9/11. It's over my garage door with the light on over it all night. I do need to replace it, though. It looks fine and is still solid and bright but the edges are starting to wear out. I'll think about taking it down when the axis of Evil has been eliminated or neutered and al Qaeda is a footnote in the history books.

The way I look at it is that it has more effect if it's not flown all the time; in this particular area, very very few flags are flown, even on the appropriate holidays.
I'm assuming by putting it up at this time, it might be more noticed and perhaps start a chain reaction.
For whatever reason, in Santa Clarita where we used to live there were tons and tons of flags flying. Here (sort of a resort area) I'd guess it's because a high percentage of the homes belong to weekenders.

TYVM. Additionally I ordered bumper stickers, buttons, and a T-shirt for my better half. Got to keep this economy moving....
