Though I have tremendous respect for him, I totally disagree with Col. Hackworth on Iraq.

Hack has not, and never will realize nor accept the Technological advances our country has made in warfighting...he had his day in the sun...and fails to realize that modern days call for modern methods...

I met the guy at a booksigning on a few occassions...he reminds me of my 76 y/o Mom who can't understand why we now have to pay almost $2.00 for a carton of milk, when, while she was a little girl milk sold for pennies a carton.

This isn't the Korean war, and it SURELY won't be the Vietnam war.

I don't have respect for Hack anymore. He's used up all my good will. He should go join Hillary of Schumer's staff as military consultant. He can go advise Rangle on his draft schemes.

I agree. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him also. The reactions to him from another poster were way out of line. When you, I, and others are done with our debating and boasting it's the poor lads in uniform who must "do the deed". He is coming from that angle. It is also true that the USA's foreign policy has become a tad bit like Victorian Britian's and the Roman empire.

Irregardless... must back our boys.

You can respect a guy for his courage, etc. I don't mean to imply I don't respect Hackworth, and I agree with a lot of what he says, but if you listen to him long enough in a forum where he is allowed to go on and on, he will ultimately lead himself right into his Rooseveltian Socialism. It is true, and I have heard him do it on several occaisions. He is definitely not a conservative. He appears on these talk shows where the are discussing the military and people assume he is "one of us". He ain't. Given enough time he will say so. So that is why you occaisionally see some comment of his like this, and if you don't realize, if you say to yourself, "I saw him on a show with Ollie North!", you may be surprised to hear some of the stuff he says when he isn't on a talking head show and the host is "managing him". They do this to protect his crediblity. Watch him next time you see him on the TV. Watch how the "journalists" cut him off and steer him to keep him from outing his leftie tendencies. It is humorous, actually.
