Serious nice rant.
However, I believe that people can support the troops and not the war. There are mothers everywhere who would rather have their courageous sons and daughters deployed in peace times. There are mothers everywhere who are supportive of both their children in the service and are rah-rah-ing about the war as well. Few have yet to see their kids arrive home in boxes (or the more efficient bags that have been purchased this time). When that happens, the mothers will be proud of their child's efforts to keep freedom and know their children died for a just cause. That pride must carry them through the rest of their life as they miss their children and think of what might have been as they ponder the grandchildren they will never have. That is a kind of heartache no one can know unless it is lived. And it stinks.
And another thing that stinks . . . Don't waste your money on seeing ANYONE in Reliant Stadium. The acoustics reek in a grand and memorable fashion.

"However, I believe that people can support the troops and not the war. "Of course they can. And we can choose to NOT support those people.
We can trash them for their idiocy. We can boycott their albums, and their movies. We can show them that their words have consequences.
Sean Penn is blacklisted, and so are the Dixie Chicks.

When war is ineveitable one cannot just support the troops and not ones country, period.
No matter how you beleive, if it comes down to the nut cuttin', an American must support the country till its over.
You need to rethink your resolve.

I mostly agree (I agree entirely about the sense of loss) but one cannot oppose an active war without harming the troops who are fighting it. The two are tightly tied together and cannot be separated.

However, I believe that people can support the troops and not the war. What are troops used for? This is like saying, "I support mailmen but not when they deliver mail." Or, "I support firemen but not when they put out fires."

There are mothers everywhere who would rather have their courageous sons and daughters deployed in peace times. Of course they would. Unfortunately, to turn away from a war when it is brought you you will guarantee that more mothers will grieve in the future.
Obviously, ignoring the war we were embroiled in for the past 12 years isn't saving any lives right now.
Thusly, not to support a just war is to actively support the deaths of more troops in the future.
