The Russians have always been really fastidious about what is and isn't illegal under international law. </sarc>

Since when did Russia care whether war was illegal or not? Cheez. Can't trust them. I like Putin but I'm not turning my back on him.

has no grounds, including legal grounds Makes more sense than the headline. There is a difference between illegal and no legal grounds. There is no law in these matters aside from treaties, and our own Constitution.

"There are 20 million Muslims living in Russia. We cannot afford not to consider their opinion and we fully share their alarm," he added. But thety don't mind your war in Chechnya, right? The Russians can go to hell and keep the French company.

good ... seems somebody remembers when Russia fired eight (8) SS-21 conventional-warhead missiles into Chechnya in October, 1999 ... gotta stop the Muslim revolt there ...
but they want the USA to ignore Muslims with WMD ... makes perfect sense ... [/sarcasm] ...
good post ...

From Russia's 1997
Military Doctrine:
1.3. Basic destabilizing factors of the military-political situation:
diminished effectiveness of existing machinery for ensuring international security, above all the United Nations and OSCE;
the practice of applying military force in circumvention of generally recognized principles and rules of international law without UN Security Council sanction;

Oooh ... good questions, Sawdring.
Flamefront ... given Kissinger's warning that we should not forget the betrayal of our allies, I'm wondering what exactly will be the nature of future relations with the former Soviets should they take a page from Hank. Should be interesting. Thanks for the flag.
