it's a shame that Putin is choosing the wrong side here.

France is trying to drag Germany along to set up a European superpower to rival the US. Putin would like to be part of such a formation. Unfortunately, his up-to-now good judgment has been clouded by the prospect and he does not see that Europe cannot become that superpower. EU does not have and cannot acquire the military wherewithal to challenge US paramountcy. EU's tendency toward socialism and its attendant inefficiencies guarantee that if EU starts to spend the money necessary to gain an American class military, the economy will sag to a level that will make the project unattainable and will make for a USSR type of denouement- economic collapse.

Yes, I think you're right about that. Sad to see him picking Chiraq and Schoeder to side with though, isn't it? He seemed to admire GWB so much, I had hopes for Russia. Now, Putin will be as irrelevant as the others.

"It will probably be lost on the likes of the Kennedy clan, but I kind of like the symbolism of beginning the war on St. Patrick's day. After all, St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland."

Great point!

Priority #1: Deny credentials to Helen Thomas.

Nah, just dart her with a knock-out sedative like the skit on Saturday Night Live this week.

This will be a short speech:

"Surrender or die"

Probably the shortest in history.

Bush gave France one last chance yesterday, when he said "France has showed its cards, tomorrow we will see what that means". He was giving them one last shot at redemption before letting them embarrass themselves as we go off with Britian and others to fight this war.

What this means is that private companies from coalition countries will be given contracts to rebuild Iraq after this conflict and will get paid with revenue from Iraqi Oil!

This is already pumping some life blood into the economy. If we liberate, then the US and companies deserve some of the oil revenue to pay for the liberation and rebuilding efforts. France will not get any part of this, although I'm sure newly-appointed Iraq officials will be encouraged entertain new contracts with France on some scale to show once again that France can't take care of themselves.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush, during a Monday night national address, will make clear "time is very short" for Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to avoid military action, an administration official told CNN. A 72-hour ultimatum "is in the right ballpark," the official said.

Bush, in a televised address set for 8 p.m. ET, will demand that Saddam yield power and leave the country, the White House said.

Valleygal, that was the phrase that the BBC transmitted to the French Resistance to let them know that the Normandy invasion was coming.

It's simply amazing the trivial crap I remember when I'm stuck at work and our computer systems are on the fritz. :)
