Anyone who imagines that the collapse of the UN as a guarantor of global security will be followed by the instantaneous formation of the promised replacement -- the coalition to disarm Saddam Hussein -- is living in a dream world. Timing is everything. If Bush had wanted to launch an invasion of Iraq this spring, he wouldn't have run out the clock in the UN. And, reality check for you, Saddam Hussein has WMD -- ergo, we aren't going to get into a shooting match with him any time soon. To think otherwise is to indulge in the most absurd, wish-fulfillment fantasy. That is why there is no ultimatum to Saddam Hussein, only to France.
