Clear Channel DJ Responds to Boycott (Long email thread)
Posted on 03/16/2003 9:11:19 AM PST by Lunatic Fringe
This is an email response from Jagger, a DJ for Dallas 102.1 radio station. He was responding to my email which stated I was organizing a boycott of Clear Channel and its sponsors for playing the Beastie Boys anti-American, anti-Bush song.

I got chewed out by Jessie, their afternoon drive time DJ, for calling and expressing the same opinion. She wouldn't even admit that she agreed with their stance.
Given how quickly she got mad, I think they're getting a lot of calls and emails, but don't want to admit it.

Yes, (hanging my head) me too. *sigh* Got smart and decided to take my broadcasting skills back to the place where they would be most appreciated (and allow me to make more money). The U.S. Army.

Freedom of Speech means the Beastie boys can stand on a public street corner and sing anything they want to sing. It does not give them the "right" to have it aired over a radio station.

I still am a member at a radio chat board. I just poked my head over there to see what my fellow DJ's are saying about the whole Dixie Chicks thing as well as the Beastie Boys. It embarasses me to see the number of people on there who see nothing wrong with what the Liberal Lemmings in this country are saying about this country and supporting the anti-America idiots 100%. No wonder I got out.

WHY ISN'T HE OVER THERE HOLDING A GUN?! Part of the peaceniks/DUer's plan. They had plans to throw at the pro-Bush people a military enlistment forms.

The simple solution: The Beastie Boys are free to put anything they want on record. The Dixie Chicks are free to travel abroad and bash their own president. And we are free to change the channel immediately when we hear the voices of these Anti-American artists. That's all you have to tell ClearChannel and all radio stations. E-mail them and tell them that you will immediately change the channel when you hear these artists, and you may or may not return to the channel. Frankly, if there was a boycott on advertisers, I wouldn't know who to boycott. I haven't listened to FM radio much in the past year. I was, at one time, a huge Beastie Boys fan. I've always liked the Dixie Chicks as well. But I simply won't give the time of day to these artists after what they've had to say about my president. Sorry for ranting.

I would love to see a list of ClearChannel sponsors to Freepmail.
One thing a person wanting to boycott can do is e-mail all the local car dealerships... they are the biggest sponsors of local stations. Let them know you wont buy a car from them if they continue to sponsor anti-American music.

Some DJs never had a real life...spent their adolescence living through the radio...just learning to talk, never actually doing any of the things they talk about (lots of sportscasters fall in the same category...making a fist to hold the mike is the most physical thing they've done). It's a fantasy world, and once they manage to land an on-air job they can skate by without any real life experience or education because our culture worships the media...no matter how wrong its message.

My question for anyone who says "if you want war, why aren't you in the military" is "if you don't want war, why aren't YOU a human shield?"Oh!, fabulous answer! The simplest things are the most profound. Thanks, I'm going to be using this one.

BLL: "Sure, it's country, but isn't clear Channel violating Daryl's free speech by not playing country music?" V: ClearChannel is a communications corporation that owns hundreds of radio stations of all sorts. For example, they own WSSL and WESC here in Greenville, SC, which are both country stations. ClearChannel has several divisions, of which ClearChannel Radio is just one.
It was a rhetorical question. The DJ was claiming that it was a violation of the Beastie Boys' First Amendment rights not to play their crap. If so, I asked rhetorically, isn't a violation of a country singer's First Amendment rights not to play HIS music on the station? Shouldn't CC be forced to play EVERYONE's music?
Obviously, the answer is "no, the First Amendment does not mean we have to play every body's songs."
Which proves that no one is violating the Beastie Boys' rights

What I find interesting is that Jagger was so offended about people excercising THEIR right to turn the channel. He knows that people turning the station and boycotting sponsors hurts his business, so he responds in the only way he knows how... by demonizing anyone who excercises this right.
If I were just protesting the song, demanding it be taken off the air, his response would be, "Well, you have the right to change the channel." Then they get all huffy when you do and tell them. LOL!

Boycott Clear Channel. Get Sirius commercial free and Clear Channel free satellite radio.

didn't any of the left side listen after 9-11, president bush said we are going to war on terror. most everyone said oh , yeah, yeah. duh! he also said it would be an ongoing war. i'm with the person that said i need duck tape to hold my brain from exploding. the hardest thing to deal with is when the fact is there and so many hard heads can't or won't see it. this is it. i hope there are left leaning lurkers that can explain why.

..And furniture stores, jewelers, carpet & appliance stores. Also, I think if you call the advertisers that are a bit "smaller" than a car dealer, you'll get a better response because their ad dollars are much more valuable to them. Car dealers tend to spread their money around on every station in the market, whereas the small business man has much less to spend, so he puts it all on one or two stations. Clear Channel would notice that type of change.
