This Dixie Chicks thing is getting very, very serious for the group...

I keep hearing this. I wonder if it's true.

Maines' antics are NOTHING compared to those of Jane Fonda, yet Fonda had a remarkable career.

OTOH, country music fans are a different sort.

It may well be that the "Chicks" go mainstream pop from here on out. Brittney Spears could compare Bush to Hitler, and the popsters would keep buying her cr*p.

The difference is, with Britney Spears demographic, an explanation of who Bush and Hitler are would be in order. If like, fer sure, they don't appear on the pages of Seventeen, the recognition may be lost.

Big difference. Spears' fans couldn't tell Hussein from The Who, and Ms. Spears, unlike The Dixie Chicks, has the "eye candy" angle.

It might have to do with the demographics of the DC's
customer/fan base. It might also have to do with the
life cycle of pop music vs. the life cycle of movies.

Airplay can come under pressure immediately. CD sales
can dry up overnight. Concerts can get cancelled in a
few days.

An actor typically has a broader audience than a country
music artist, and potentially pisses off a smaller
percentage of it. There isn't really anything comparable
to top-40 airplay for movies. If video rentals fall off,
it will take some time to be correlated to who's in the
credits. DVD and VHS sell-thru is still not huge, so a
demand drop may likewise not be immediately apparent.
Even if a large number of fans are annoyed, it won't likely
affect a film currently being shot. The actor hopes it
will all blow over before release. A political gaffe
might affect near-term roles, though, as Sean Penn has
recently discovered.

The DC blow up scenario, even if it doesn't directly apply
to movie and TV actors, may well serve to get their attention.

It should be noted that Jane Fonda took a good number of years after that trip to North Vietnam to get her career back. It wasn't until On Golden Pond was released in 1981 that she finally got her acting career back on track. I believe that Jane got the role in that movie because her father Henry Fonda had a lead acting role in that movie, the last role before he passed away.

Yesterday you were saying this was a flash in the pan, and it would be forgotten in a week.

That was then when the whole country was in a total state of confusion.

This is now after the confused have had a chance to settle down, raise a family and become responsible. We are VietNam era survivors who suffered thru 8 years of abuse and 2 more of our guy being blasted daily and we are mad as hell and not going to take it any more. This is our chance for not so much as payback but rather the awakening of a sleeping giant! As for the Chicks, talk about bad choices and bad timing.......

Their self destruction is going to send shock waves throughout the entire entertainment industry! LOL!
