"Sure is! My guess is when the B-2's start flying you will know we are in a full scale attack to light up the night sky of Baghdad!"

My thoughts exactly. I don't think we will give Saddam a chance to take a look at the radar signature of a B-2, however small or intermittant it might be, before one of them starts dropping bombs.

Guys, calm down. It was just a B1 dropping JDAMS on a radar site.

You'll know the war has "started" when these are dropped on the Iraqi troops.

The intensity has increased, but not the "start" of the war.

They left Whiteman AFB last night, sent to Diego Garcia.

'JDAMS are 2000 lb dumb bombs kitted with a GPS guidance system to make them "smart." '

Actually, the kit is made for 500, 1,000, and 2,000 lb. bombs. The 2,000 pounders are saved for some large targets. Those suckers will do am amazing amount of damage. And the 2,000 lb. bomb is only carried by larger aircraft.

I used to design guidance systems for those.

What is a JDAM?

JDAM = Joint Direct Attack Munition. It's an all weather satellite guided precision bomb. B2 carries 16 - 2000 pounders able to precisely target and hit 16 seperate targets in one awesome strike.

More significant is the fact that B-1's were involved - this is the first time they have been used in the Gulf region (including Desert Storm).

Not to disagree, but to expand: B-1s have been used in Afghanistan. Which, as we can all agree, is not the Gulf region.

That was what dawned on me, it was a B-2. Not F/A-18 or something like that, an actual bomber. Seems like a harbinger of the very near future.

I have a more fundamental question: What is a JDAM?

You have a computer..

I assume you know how to use the internet since you are here.

Look it up.....

are you stupid or something?
