KC Radio Stations Dump Dixie Chicks

If you tuned in to any of Kansas City's country music stations Thursday, you did not hear the Dixie Chicks.

Several stations in town have dumped the group's music over the lead singer's controversial comments about President Bush, KMBC's Jeremy Hubbard reported.

At a concert in London earlier this week, Natalie Maines, the band's lead singer said, " Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

The Guardian, a London paper that reported the comment, said Maines' remark got the crowd cheering.

Many local residents, however, were not excited about the singer's point of view.

"If you guys play another Dixie Chicks song, we'll never listen to you again," one country music fan told KBEQ.

The station logged nearly 700 phone calls Thursday, denouncing Maines' comment.

The reactions from listeners were enough for programmers at all three big Kansas City country radio stations to pull the Dixie Chicks from their playlists, Hubbard reported.

But some Dixie Chicks fans didn't appreciate the ban.

"There are some artists that I like that have said things I don't agree with, but it doesn't stop me from listening to their music," said radio listener Shawn Peterson.

One radio station is even taking the boycott a step further.

Friday morning, one local station will take the ban a step further. They have invited their listeners to come to the station's studios and dump their Dixie Chicks CDs in a big trash can, Hubbard said.

The Dixie Chicks are scheduled to play to a sold out crowd in Kansas City next month.

I think we've covered two very good examples of "STEP ONE: Fire Gun...STEP TWO: Stop hopping, pull gun from holster, and aim"

Maybe they will have to have a public expulsion of the Fat Chick to make amends with the public.

Good.

Guillotine.

But no pyrotechnics.

That would be over the top.

Q104 (104.3 FM) plays Darryl Worley's song Have Your Forgotten that supposedly many stations won't play. Can't stand the Chicks.

Sean Hannity had been playing that and today played Toby Keith's Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.

He also played a few bars of the Pigs' Landslide with the needle scratching across a record followed by breaking sounds.

DeeJays would play make it or break it in the '50's and really break 45's.

With the Pigs a special effect will suffice--don't want to actually buy something of theirs.

I was saddened when she died - of course I also regretted the loss of the two artists that accompanied her, T. Texas Tyler and Cowboy Copas - and her death so closely followed those of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper.

Then a year or so later, Jim Reeves was killed.

We lost some fantastic talent in that 5-year period.

...the original ditzy chick, Sinead O'Connor?

I'd forgotten about that Irish twit. She deluded herself into thinking she had talent, and understood politics as well.

I didn't get to post yesterday, but I found out this past weekend WCAT 106.7 in Harrisburg had a "No Dixie Chicks, PA Proud Weekend." Needless to say I listened every chance I had.

Shalom.

Well, you can always take the third option, and just have the credit card reverse the charges because they are no longer worth what you paid for them... It might be harder to justify, but maybe not.

As someone who has been an A/R guy, there's no way this will fly. They are worth what they purported to be worth at the time of sale - entrance to a Dixie Chicks concert. Unless the concert is cancelled, the contract remains valid. Think of the precedent that this would set if credit card companies allowed people to reverse charges for reasons such as these.

If you purchased tickets before this happened and now don't want to attend, I don't think you should be penalized by the ticket vendor's no-return policy.

That's the chance you take when you buy an advance ticket. I have no love for ticket-vendors - I believe they are an incredible rip-off - but defrauding them isn't the answer. When you buy a ticket, you are buying into a contract - check out the small print on the back of the ticket for details. Finding out the political views of a performer don't coincide with one's own certainly isn't reason enough to void the contract.

I am loath to suggest anything questionable, but I have no problems with this.

I originally posted because you were suggesting something very questionable - namely in your post 159: If you have already received the tickets by mail, you can do the same thing [i.e. claim that you didn't receive the tickets] as long as you didn't have to sign for the tickets.

I stand by my earlier assertion that this is fraud.

Fair enough - then I would certainly recommend that you not take the course of action I suggested...

Sinead O'Connor is a free concert on Direct TV this month. Why anyone would want to see this, I don't know !!

Also, RUSH is a free concert. (From their 1989 tour I
believe). Great show ! Watch it if possible.

On the ESPN Philadelphia Philles chatroom, trhe term "Dixie Chimps" is being used ! Very humorous I believe
