A sober response, thank you. I hesitate to call the opponents of war "the left" since they advocate nothing interesting or provocative. They're Buchananites. They advocate nothingness.

If you have a chance to listen to Christopher Hitchens' Elberg speech and exchanges with the students, it becomes evident why Hitchens is so opposite the isolationist, Buchanan. Christopher argues for globalism of the American culture/founding principles, as the only force that can defeat global Islamism in its totalitarian mindset.

The left have more than a few political positions in common with Pat and his fellow travelers. The difference between them, as I see it, is that the left has morphed into a political entity stressing globalism (in every instance in which American nationalism and globalism lock horns, from Kyoto to Iraq) and Pat seems to be strictly isolationist in his beliefs.

Perhaps you're right in your contention that the neo-cons are today's radicals; certainly part of the "Bush Doctrine" is that the military can be used to effect lasting social change in the most backward of regions. Did you see the photos, posted here today, of the children in Iran whose parents had had their foreheads ripped open by razors and swords in acts of Islamic worship? They were absolutely barbaric. Liberating children from the clutches of this sort of dehumanizing, medieval, demonic torture should be seen as the work of freedom fighters.

Chriostopher's brother Peter is a rather interesting contrast as he is a true conservative, though not as well known on this side of the pond as his brother Christopher.
