they think she ran off with him, consented to sex with him and that he should not be in jail.
I have read just about all of these threads and I have failed to read anything that she that Eliz. consented to have sex with Mitchell or that he should not be in jail. Care to source that allegation?
To: spectre
Thanks for posting that news report from last June. Maybe people who cannot understand how cynical some of us who have been following this case all along have become about anything the Smarts have to say will understand if they read this and compare it to the current official version. Poor MK's credibility is shot, along with whoever put her up to saying these things.
Polo shirt? English driving cap? Small, black gun? Dark hair? Hair on arms?
And don't forget the "trusted member of the community!" LOL!
The only thing about this article that seems to still be "operative" is that fact that MK keeps changing her "account" and that MK waited 2 hours to go tell her parents, which I believe was what Eliz. instructed her to do. ("Give me a two hour head start and then go tell Mom and Dad."
To: Iwo Jima
Many of the threads have been blocked or closed... there is your answer.
To: Krodg
How could she have noticed so many details with her eyes closed?
What MK has said that she saw is an amalgam of what Eliz. told her to tell her parents and what her parents told her to tell the police. It bears very little resemblance to reality.

I believe that I read those deleted threads (before they were deleted) and I can tell you that I never saw anything like that. But if you say you remember them, then I'll accept your statement. I can't remember everything, and I do tend to skip over posts which I think are just ridiculous. But I DO know that if such comments were made, they were definitely aberrations and nothing for you to become upset about.

Indeed. And the Elizabeth Smart case underscores the importance of having the most experienced and qualified professionals assigned to those activities of law enforcement for which they are best qualified by training, experience, and intrinsic qualities.
The experienced "street cop" who brought Elizabeth back from her private hell had intuition, people skills, street smarts, courage, persistence, and keen powers observation. A rookie, a "profiler," or a scientist/geek of a cop likely would not have been equipped to save the day.
That said, John Walsh's formidable media machinery also helped save the day by broadcasting, at the behest of the Smart family, that which the professionals within the SLC-PD had discounted....

Newsflash: Beards aren't permanent fixtures -- they grow and can be shaved off. The fact that he has a beard now tells us nothing about whether he had one on the night of June 5, 2002.

I agree, too many questions. Some people have said that some of us will never be satisfied with the outcome and they could be right. I guess I'm tired of too many years of no accountibility.
Sorry, I'm just disgusted with all the people that want to make this their private forum. I don't mean the people that are open to speculation...I'm talking about the people that don't allow any point of view but their own. This is FREE REPUBLIC...We have a say too!!!!!!

Beards aren't permanent fixtures -- they grow and can be shaved off. Really? Wow, what a newsflash, indeed. This photo was taken of Mitchell just days before Elizabeth disappeared. Perhaps he shaved off the beard and bought a Polo shirt and golf cap just for the occasion of her impending kidnapping.

Well said. You know, I think that I could accept Ed Smart lying to the police through MK and otherwise if I were convinced that it was for the purpose of getting the police engaged in finding Elizabeth. I might very well do the same under those circumstances. But the fact that he continues to spin and make false statements even though she is home tells me that it was really all about Ed and that the purpose was to make Ed look good in his own eyes. I have next to no respect for the man, for a variety of reasons.

This very bizarre story deserves only one title "VERY weird rich family encounters VERY weird homeless family".

So stop it with the double posts, already!
To: iconoclast
So true! Actually, I think that Ed and Tom are weird, but the Smart women seem to pretty much have their act together. Call me sexist! Of course, Lois messed up big time in bringing this low-life "Emmanual" home.
To me, all homeless people are inherently weird. If they weren't odd, they wouldn't be homeless (with few exceptions for some very temporary situations). Emmanual is no better and no worse than you would expect someone of his ilk to be. He is at best a con artist and maybe a great deal worse.
To: mountaineer
Yes, it's conceivable that someone planning to carry out a kidnapping would take steps to disguise himself.
To: Devil_Anse
Did you really have to write a dissertation on the issue of whether or not this was a valid marriage? Nobody has said that this could possibly be a valid marriage. So cut out the highfaluting pontificating and talk about something that people are really concerned about, IF you have anything to contribute on any topic which is actually of interest to Freepers.
Of course, your very name is overwhelming evidence that you are only here to engender feuds and discord.

My pleasure, IJ. There are many such press reports, all basically saying the same thing, out there.
Must we have a disclaimer that says "we thank the Lord Elizabeth is alive and well"?
OTOH, I cannot set Ed Smart up on a pedestal simply because he got his daughter home alive. There are just too many issues unresolved in this case, that justify asking questions.
Now, we hear that Elizabeth's Cousin may have been a victim of an attempted kidnapping by the same perp.
Wonder how Mitchell knew where to look for the cousin?

Nobody has said that this could possibly be a valid marriage. Wrong again.
Um, have you noticed the title of this thread? "FBI Source: Elizabeth Smart Was Married to Drifter."
Perhaps you are so busy extemporating that you have forgotten to notice what other people are saying.
