Hunk Of Metal Crashes Through Family's Roof - Sent to NASA (Picture)

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- NASA has been asked to help determine what crashed through the roof of a home in Ohio, narrowly missing a sleeping woman and her baby.

The incident happened Monday afternoon in Kristy Blair's home in Middletown.

Blair said she was dozing with her 7-week-old son, Josiah, in her bedroom shortly after lunch when she heard what sounded like something hitting the roof of her condominium.

A few seconds later, the object and part of the roof hit the bed just a few feet away from her son, then fell to the floor.

"It scared me because it came so close to the baby," she said of her son, Josiah. "But I just thought it was something from the roof of the house, maybe from all the ice melting."

Police described the object as a piece of silvery metal, possibly aluminum, that is burnt and discolored around the edges.

The letters "U.S." are stamped in one corner, but numbers on the object are obscured.

Along with NASA investigators, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Middletown Police Department are looking into the incident.

"It is way too early to tell what it is or where it came from," said Bob Gillespie, an FAA aviation safety inspector. He speculated that the object might have fallen from an airplane.

Investigators have not said whether they believe the debris is space junk. Police are storing the item until federal officials arrive to examine it.

It looks like Bill Buckner's glove.

Better that it happened when he was with the Red Sox...I'm not sure Cubbie fans would have allowed him to live.

It looks like a nut imbedded in carbon-fiber material. Its probably part of a plane. If it is, I hope they ground it.

Oh, I just noticed that it appears that the threads are gone from the inside of the nut. Maybe it is space junk - heat could melt them smooth.

Donnie Darko is the first thing I thought of when I read the headline! I love that movie. It is so captivating and so sad. The song "Mad World" actually brings tears to my eyes.

Impossible. The jerk never bent over far enough for the ball to actually have touched his glove.

Oh and by-the-way...thanks for bringing up such a wonderfully painful memory. Why not just give me a paper cut and pour lemon juice on it?    =8^P

I was just looking through a back issue of Astronomy magazine. On the average, there is one meteorite hit on some North American building every 15 months, and that's just the reported ones. Hits from man made debris are probably at least as common.

It couldn't be a Red Socks' glove. Their pitchers can't throw that hard.

I just went to the website and can't make heads or tails out of it. It keeps asking for level passwords. What is it all about?

If you haven't seen the film, rent it. It is phenomenal. If you have, then you will know the references that website is speaking of.

The website is as haunting as the film.
First click on the red cirle/target. Then click on the word "proceed". Then click on "Otherwise proceed here". Do Pay close attention, you could miss something. Then click on the State of Virginia Seal. Read the report and type "y" for yes, to proceed. Do this again after reading the next page of the report. And again on page three.

From there click on the red "plus sign" that says "level 1 is active". It is all very game-like to get you into the subject matter of the film. (You have to type in the word "sparrow" where it says "she had the name of a bird") I would HIGHLY recommend that you see the movie. It will affect you.
