FoxNews Alert just reported that Iraqi troops have left Baghdad with heavy artillary and are heading south to the Kuwaiti boarder. More troops with SCUD missle launchers are heading west. The thought is that Saddam is about to attack our troops.
This is breaking news and details are few and far between.

Been thinking. If I were Saddam, would I want 50000 AMerican marines and a dozen SAS guys on my tail or 50555 pissed off Jews from Israel. I dunno,,its a tossup. Those Jewish guys know how to wage war if you ask me.

One thing for certain about Saddam, he will do something totally unexpected that makes no sense. just like when he set the Kuwaiti oil wells on fire.

How close would we allow them to get before we would have to attack?
To: Drewman626
Damm, I hope you are right!
I agree with whoever posted something to the effect that Saddam may be thinking he might as well take out as many as he can with whatever bio and chems he has hidden. That possibility really scares me.
My son (USMA 90) was 82nd, in northern iraq to ride shotgun to protect our forces trying to rescue the kurds. I got an email from him today. He is now working in Switzerland, and says the tension in his office is so thick you can cut it with a knife, between the Americans and the Europeans working there.
The europeans stop talking, he says, when the Americans come into the lunch room. He is missing his buddies who are still in, and now wishes he were still with them, lying in his 4 x 8 slot, memorizing his artillery positions before going to sleep at night.
He titled today's email to me "The Eve of War", and, he is slightly psychic, but very pragmatic.

You coul try finding out the ranges of the various versions of the SCUDS.
FAS has the SCUD-A (which Iraq never have) at 130 km, while the SCUD-B (which Iraq does have) at 300 km. Further variants of the SCUD have even greater ranges, though since Iraq felt compelled to extend their ranges, they apparently didn't receive the -C or -D models.

If we see Scuds anywhere, we'll attack them right now. We're already bombing surface to surface missile sites in Iraq, and bombing a weapon they claim they don't have is a no-brainer.

Perhaps he decided that he would be safer if his own troops were further away. We had reports of secret surrender negotiations and he may have gotten wind of a plan to deliver his head on a tray.

You're a woman after my own heart. Are you, by any chance, my long lost twin sister? If I'm not watching Fox News, I'm watching hockey. I go through withdrawl in the long, hot dry spell most people call summer.
LOL. Don't know if you're my long lost sister. Of course, there's a good chance that we might be twins that were separated at birth if you still long for the days of the RHI. (Roller Hockey International) I know that I do. Minor League as it was, RHI made the summers go by a little bit faster. :)

First Strike? U.S. Military Concerned Saddam Hussein May Launch First Attack ch 13 U.S. officials fear that once President Bush signals the U.S. is headed to war, Saddam Hussein will strike pre-emptively, administration sources told ABCNEWS. But if the United States takes action to stop an Iraqi first strike, especially if they try to seize and protect the oil fields, U.S. officials admit they may end up starting the war itself.
This new level of concern about Iraq is caused by an accumulation of intelligence including troubling new details that focus on three areas:
Specific new evidence indicates that Iraqi activity in the Western desert shows the strong likelihood Scud missiles are hidden there. These missiles could easily reach Israel carrying chemical or biological warheads which could draw Israel into any war.
Detailed new intelligence from the southern Iraqi oil fields shows that many of the 700 wells have now been wired with explosives. These explosives appear to be connected to a central command post, so Saddam could easily set the wells ablaze.
Near the border with Kuwait, where 135,000 U.S. troops are now stationed, recent surveillance indicates Iraqi artillery batteries have been moved dangerously close. The artillery is capable of firing shells filled with poison gas.
The United States is now considering moving against all three of these targets before any war begins in an effort to prevent Saddam from acting first, sources told ABCNEWS.

I certainly agree. He's stupid but not that stupid.

.Jim Miklaszewski said that Iraq is moving artillery pieces to the Kuwait border, for a possible anthrax launch on Kuwait City-which could be devastating for the civilians and US troops. The Iraqi scuds may contain sarin gas, bringing 3,000 possible deaths to Tel Aviv and 30,000 injured. If this proves to be true, and US intell should know, then Saddam has just given us a reason to pre-empt his pre-emptive attack.
