That was my point---that the generic Bedouin type garb would make it even more unlikely that police would stop them for anything, including jaywalking. I'm sure if it had crossed any cop's mind, they could have been approached very politely and asked "Is this young lady Elizabeth Smart? Let's see her face."

HELLO!! You must have missed a whole lot of the story! The cops showed up because of the reported witness of the suspect linked to the Eliz. Smart case. The cops jumped on it, and were ready to take them in, then they discovered that Elizabeth herself was with them! This was no casual police stop!!
