WASHINGTON - (KRT) - First it was French fries and French toast. Now the bones of U.S. servicemen are being dragged into the conflict between France and the United States over war in Iraq.

Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Fla., plans to introduce a bill Thursday proposing that the families of the thousands of soldiers, sailors and airmen buried in France and Belgium be allowed to dig up their remains and have them shipped home.

Vondermuhll assured Americans that "France has not forgotten the American contribution to our freedom and our democracy"

Yes, it has! Payback is le biche!

Never...that ground is sanctified by their blood, an eternal reminder that we paid the price for their freedom.

My father left college and joined the French Ambulance Corps before the U.S. entered the First World War. He was injured by mustard gas, which gave him trouble the rest of his life. I'm glad he didn't live to see this.

Let them rest in peace; if for nothing else as a reminder to the French that we fought with them.

"We should be rational"

If you were rational, you wouldn't defend torturing tyrants. Your entire nation's entire policy on the subject is a fit of deliberate ill temper, and you've got the nerve to say you are the ones being rational?

While we are at it, you can also take back the statue of liberty. If you aren't too ashamed to look at it. We'll visit 9-11 monuments instead.

My first reaction to reading this was that it should be left to the disires of the families of the fallen. My second thought was that leaving them where they lie is probably the only thing to remind the French of what they've done ... on the other hand, however, if they were removed, that might be a reminder of what both have done - both the valliant allied US fallen from WWII and what the scumbag ChIraq has since done turning on the US to support equally corrupt & evil regimes. May God have mercy on their souls.

Funny you should mention your dad: I was just thinking today that if he were still alive, he'd be having a FIT about all that is in the paper; I can hear him now, "We just don't need to know everything!"

FYI - this originated from a recent spat a few weeks back featuring a belligerent French diplomat telling one of our State Dept. folks how much they hate us and we're evil warmongers, etc., and the frogs said something to the effect, go ahead and leave, take all your warmongering troops and leave, to which our US representative asked the arrogant French SOB whether that meant we should take our fallen buried in Normandy as well.

The last full measure of fallen American heroes is the only decent thing left in France. I don't think we'll be so eager to pull the French chestnuts out of the fire next time however, nor will they be part of the after-game, when the war is won.

The way you're going, there will be plenty of them to visit, too.

Actually, I think that was Dean Rusk to Charles DeGaulle back in the late 60's when The Nose said he wanted all Amrican servicemen off of French soil.

It is time to make an expample of France. Congress needs to put full economic sanctions in place backed up by a carrier group. They are not our friends. They are our enemies. People need to understand this. Posters from France need to consider how mad AMERICANS are and they have only added fuel to the fire. France owes us a public apology. If the french"men" want to be cocky then...we can also handle that.
