I don't think this is political. I don't think there's anything that prohibits you from standing on a side walk, watching a demonstation and holding an American flag. You would not be participating in a political activity.
That said, I'm sure that the CIC has plenty for you to do so you should be spending your free time with your family. 'Course they could come too. The Police in Washington keep things under control so real physical danger is pretty remote.

You are allowed to go to a protest as long as you are not in uniform. I'm active duty military and I'm going. Just make sure you are peaceful and stay out of trouble (no dustups with the loony lefties).
