Independent B-92 radio said Djindjic, who played a key role in Milosevic's extradition to the U.N. War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands, was shot in the chest while entering the government building in Belgrade.

Shouldn't surprise anybody...

It's not neccesary. Some of us have jobs.

If it is "news" then it should have a link....if it doesnt...then it is a rumor and a waste of my time. So far the only thing printed is an assassination attempt...not success.

Deal with some commonsense rules or head over to libertypost.

From BBC: Serbian premier assassinated

The Serbian Prime Minister, Zoran Djindjic, has been assassinated in the capital, Belgrade.

He was shot in front of government offices at around 1300 (1200 gmt) on Wednesday.

He was taken to hospital for emergency surgency but a government minister told the BBC that he had died.

Mr Djindjic, a former mayor of the Serbian capital, was a prominent reformist opposition leader until Slobodan Milosevic was ousted from power in 2000.

A police source told Reuters news agency that he had been hit twice by large-calibre sniper rifle bullets.

The editor of the Fonet news agency, Zoran Sekulich, told BBC World television Mr Djindjic had been shot once in the stomach and once in the back.

On 21 February Mr Djindjic survived what then he said was an assassination bid when a lorry swung into the path of his motorcade as he was travelling to Belgrade airport.

He later dismissed the incident as a "futile effort" which could not stop democratic reforms.

Hmm, which group is more likely to have waxed Djindjic, the pro-Slobos or the Islamists? I got my money on the Islamists.

Was he killed by an Austrian-Hungarian? Turn-about is fair play you know.

Is Archduke Ferdinand ok?

Iranian radio reports the archduke has been captured. The CIA denys it.

To those who hit abuse saying that this was a duplicate of this, I disagree because the first thread was about an assassination attempt, and this one said it was done, he was assassinated.

It was a judgement call, and I agree that it would not have been improper to pull this or lock it and link it to the other piece. But I prefer a hands off approach as much as possible. It is better to let the mosaic unfold on its own. Thanks, AM

WWI was begun in Serbia, when the visiting Archduke of Austria was assassinated in Sarajavo (sp?). But I agree, this does feel a little bit like 1914...

Serb PM Shot, Undergoing Emergency Operation 5 minutes ago

BELGRADE (Reuters) - Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic was fatally shot Wednesday in front of the main government building in Belgrade, sources said.

If he was fatally shot, why would he be undergoing an emergency op?

For the same reason, when my kids' cat (ok ok it was mine too) had a heart attack and died before we left the house for the 20 minute drive to the animal hospital, I still made the drive?
