'Pi times the radius squared {not the square of the radius},,

I've been out of school awhile, but isn't the square of a number the same as the number squared? i.e. Twenty five squared equals 625 and the square of 25 is 625. Correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks

I have been out of school many years too!! So I am the blind leading the probably less blind but I thought the square of a number was the square root. Like the square of 4 is 2 rather than 16. But Hey, I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
