Peacenik Garofalo Upset at Harassment, May Quit Protesting

Antiwar activist Janeane Garofalo announced Monday that she may quit protesting U.S. plans to make war on Iraq, saying she's being harassed and complaining that Hollywood leftists who speak out don't get enough respect.

Addressing a panel on media coverage of the war in Manhattan, the comedienne-turned-foreign policy expert said that she may "just bow out for the rest of my life," according to New York's Newsday. Garofalo complained that she's had to change her home phone number after getting several harassing calls.

The bespectacled Bush basher blames the media, which she said ridicules antiwar actors "as a way to trivialize" the concerns of those who oppose the war. [Garofalo herself, however, admitted two weeks ago that the peace movement stayed dormant during U.S. troop deployments in the 1990's because "it wasn't hip" to protest President Clinton.]

Fellow panelist William McGowan, author of "Coloring the News: How Political Correctness Has Corrupted American Journalism," disagreed. He said antiwar activists are belittled because of their "silly, vacuous slogans."

At one point I had some begrudging respect for this windbag. She had the guts to stand up for what she believed in, right or wrong.

That respect has evaporated. I now view her as a coward that doesn't even have the courage of her convictions. She's going to run and hide because too many people were mean to her.

All I've got to say to Miss Garafolo Is This...

Someone should tell this woman that in order to be respected, one must act in a respectfull way. Ms. Garofalo has every right to say what she beleives...but do it in a more respectful way. She is an absolute disgrace and she should move her ugly old maid a$$ to France.

NONE of those Hollywood wierdos would be uttering a peep if President Bush had a D. (as in DemoncRAT) next to his name. It would be "all quiet on the Western front" if Bush was a DemoncRAT! they are just trying to hurt our President. They still haven't come to grips that lyinAlGore lost his own homestate of Tenessee, and thusly didn't make it to the White House!

Exactly! The reasons you are criticized are:

1. You are not consistent. If you are against war, then you are against war. You are not against "Republican" wars and for "Democrat" wars.

2. Some of the filth coming out of the mouths of anti-war demonstrators are obviously political, not deep seated personal beliefs. Things like "Bush is the worst terrorist in the world" and "Bush: The new Hitler".

3. Like it or not, you are defending a man that must be removed simply for his human rights violations. He has massacred hundreds of thousands of people, women are routinely brutalized, raped and killed in front of family members, thousands are imprisoned on whims. Yes, this is what you are defending.

Again, the transparency of your motives are to easy to see. You (the left) said nothing during the Clinton bombing of the Sudan, the Clinton bombing of Afghanistan, the Clinton bombing of Irag (400 cruise missiles), the Clinton bombing of Bosnia (for 70 straight days!). No worry about civilian casualties when it is a Democrat!

No surprise that Americans are taking offense.

I heard McGowan interviewed by Dennis Prager about his book.
Sounded like a good read to compliment Bernard Goldberg's (sp?) "Bias".
