WANT to keep abreast of the latest in male fashion? Well, the message from Milan is to say goodbye to Mr Macho and hello to Mr Androgyny.

The provocative direction – featuring male models with fake breasts under figure-hugging knitwear – was sent down the catwalk by outrageous British designer Vivienne Westwood in the mens' autumn winter 2003 shows held this week.

And while the effect may look outrageous today, fashion commentators reckon Sydney men may just end up adopting it – in a few years' time.

THAT IS SO IGNORANT...hell will freeze over before MOST American MEN wear such garbage. Of course, we have to allow for San Fran.

Vivienne Westwood was trained as a teacher before becoming a fashion designer.

She was 30 years old when she opened a boutique with Malcom McLaren in 1971, the year that she officially embarked on her career as a fashion designer.

Her early designs were firmly rooted in the 1970s, specially the punk youth subculture.

Subversive, irreverent and definitely, not establishment, Vivienne Westwood captured the essence of street wear during that era.

Her creative spark ignited the punk and bondage craze.

As the decades passed, her designs had matured, but there is still that touch of iconoclastic non-establishment in their brilliance.

Twenty years after she started, she was named British Designer of the Year for both 1990 and 1991, as recognition for her great influence in fashion.

Vivienne Westwood currently shows her menswear and womenswear collections in Paris. //Boyd Davis

I live in Califronia.

I'm a Califronian, too. Sometimes I think I'm the only one out here who isn't a Sodomite or Saddamite. The only thing worse, culturally and morally speaking, would be to have been born French..., uh, I was born in Paris....

I was begining to have my doubts about this "study", but I think that I'd feel threatened too if all the women around me looked like Groucho Marx in drag.

It has to be tough to be French and hang out at Free Republic these days.

You sure he's French? What's he doing with a German first name (including the German spelling with a 'K')?
