From 'rule of man' to 'rule of law'Uh huh. And Jiang Zemin is an admirer of Abraham Lincoln, right. And Ho Chi Minh quoted the Declaration of Independence. All very meaningful. Snort.
This propaganda, however, will have the China traitors...er, uh...traders and the FR panda-hugger set just heaping praise on our "partners" across the Pacific and denouncing "radical jingo alarmists" like American Soldier for suggesting that the new Cold War has already started. Talk about dogs begging for scraps at the table of their Red masters.

Is Hu's "New Deal" the real deal, or another "Thousand Flowers" campaign designed to flush out party critics prior to "disappearing" them?

I would not dismiss China easily. A free market requires two things - commitment and size. They may get there internally because of their size. And there is not a thing that we could do about it. Even they may do better than us. We have to coordinate with many other countries to get the same size. Also the smaller internal size pushes politicians in favor of monopolies. Monopolies kill the free market though. We need major efforts in that direction.
