From what I remember of my Persian Gulf War 1 history, one of the biggest problem the US military had was logistics when it came to handling the huge amounts of surrendering Iraqi's.

I am sure we have already setup camps for the next wars POW's. They could have let these guys get in first and call a good bunk before the rest. I mean, our soldiers are basically sitting on their thumbs right now anyway.

If this story is true, then the administration missed a chance to show true compassion. They could have at least thrown them a bologna sandwich and a pair of combat boots before they told them to go home.

Except they didn't surrender to us, they surrendered to the Brits and I'm sure that took the Brits totally offguard.

Still, I think these guys are being taken care of and are being kept in sight to make sure they aren't harmed while they wait for the opening bell. Like I said, I'm sure they will find food and water each day when they wake up and will be located under the watchful eye of the Brits.

Heartbreaking. Excellent point about wasting the PR opportunity.

Got to look at this with a wary eye even though also a humanitarian one. Maybe they "pre-surrendered" so that they would be the first to know when hostilities begin... and could notify Baghdad.

I wonder if they were trained by the French....

You hurt my stomach with that one!!

But I have managed to get up off the floor and back to the keyboard.

I wonder if they were trained by the French....

Actually, they were probably just showing very rational thought processes.
They probably have heard some rumors about what happened in Gulf War I.
Such as the dropping of those BLU-82 bombs, then the dropping of pamphlets saying
"We'll be back to drop more of these".
My understanding is that was when droves of Iraqi grunts made a rush to surrender...
even to an Italian news group...

Although the Brits were thinking they were just acting in the spirit of "fair play",
my personal view is they should have taken them into "protective detention"
for processing as defectors.
I hope they didn't just sent these poor grunts to their death (and/or torture).

Thanks for posting this.
I heard Tony Snow mention this on today's Fox News Sunday.
(I won't be suprised if I don't hear it from other media outlets...)

Nah, they were probably directed to a safe spot where we can keep an eye on them and make sure they have food and water while they're waiting for the war to start. Right after the first strike, someone will yell over them "OK guys, you can come over now".

I hope so.

To all the "Oh, I feel for those poor souls!" on this thread (and all the actors in Hollywood):

This news is tantamount to a wholesale Iraqi surrender.

It not only reaffirms the contentions of the Bush Administration of the of the barbarous inhumane treatment by Saddamn to his own people and military; but it bears witness to the entire world of the following:

#1: The U.N., France, Germany, Belgium, and all the "nay-sayers" to a liberation of the Iraqi people are bogus - LIES!

#2: It speaks of broad and savage crimes on humanity by Saddamn far deeper than even the Bush Administration have proposed and alledged.

#3: It provides a glimmer of the humiliation to all those in the Dimratic Party, Hollywood, and the (soon to be defunct (un)United Nations who have so vehemently and unceascingly sought to demonize George W. Bush and Tony Blair for risking their entire political fortunes on the beliefs that liberating the Iraqi people from this tyranny far outweighed the risk of ridicule from the reprobat minds of thos opposed to it (the liberation).

So please join us in a resounding Battle Cry of Liberation and focus on the prizes of freedom for the Iraqi people and a milestone in the battle against terrorism in this otherwise bleak and hopeless world.

And a prayer of thankfulness to Almighty God that there were those among us with enough unwavering courage to set out on such endeavors in the face of seemingly overwhelming opposition in the first place.

And to those in director chairs in Hollywood and those sitting in positions of dispicable authority in the Dimratic Party and high places in Paris, Berlin, Brussells and facists and socialists everywhere I thank you for revealing to the world your dreams and schemes and bringing them to the light of day - sounding the bells of alarm in the hearts of those who understand that "Freedom is Not Free!"

That is all.

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors; they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." Samuel Adams

The "Anti - - Anti-war" Wave. What Should It Be? What Should It Look Like?

My heart goes out to the innocent .

I was telling someone this morning that as angry and indignant and fixated as I have felt on this upcoming war, I was very pleasantly surprised to feel that my heart of flesh [Ezekiel 11:19, 36:26] had indeed not turned into stone, and leaped to the fore for these poor lost souls.
