>> The families of 55,000 dead Vietnam veterans might dispute that fact
Uh, didn't know I was conversing with a relative of a dead Vietnam vet..

>> I still would like to know if the media's hype of this situation as a shake down of us by Turkey was intentional or simply because they are ill-informed.
Your media always present us as the villain. Even as our people were being killed by suicide bombers, your media described those terrorists as rebels and freedom fighters..
But that's not just your media. Europeans did the same thing.
Suddenly you get a taste of what it's like being a Turk.. But hang in there like we did. Don't give up nor give in.

Isn't it amazing that no one could believe a word Clinton said, and whenever Bush speaks, you can believe every single word.
He doesn't equivocate, and never hedges. What's more, he expects the same from everyone else.
How refreshing.
To: a_Turk
That is a good analogy!
And a very good lesson for us!
Thanks!

Yes indeed, folks. We are in the "Twilight Zone", where hugely contradictory situation reports coexist and remain to fester in our minds. ![](http://www.infinitybeyond.com/twilight.jpg)
I have heard similar comments with respect to the German Military (which supports the US and -i believe- deployed support troops), and the vociferously anti-war government position.

The United States of American has neither "warned," nor "threatend," nor "bullied," nor ____ ... Turkey at all; it isn't happenin'.
Turkey is a good ally, and they're doing what they believe they can, at this time.
To: a_Turk
LOL! I guess you can pick 'stupid bastard' too.. And in the future, when I see your screen-name, I'll pick 'obnoxious creep'.
First, are you sure that the public thinks that this is part of your war on terror? Believe me, Turkey's war on terror has been going on for three or four decades while you were manicuring your hedges and lawn.
And the relevance of this would be ...what? Our war on terror isn't defined by the Turkish public's perceptions of it. And I feel safe in saying that the American public understands and supports the scope of the effort. If Turkey really has been waging a war on terror for years (even while I was manicuring my hedges and lawn, no less!!!) that's all the more reason they should support the war on terror now.

You've done well over the last little while with intelligent responses to tough and sometimes rude questions. I know some of your history. I'm glad you're on our side. The Turks in Korea were some tough cookies.

Someone called us 'stupid bastards' and I responded with 'conceited jerk.'
You came in, probably didn't know what I was responding to, and started posting snyde stuff.
>> Our war on terror isn't defined by the Turkish public's perceptions of it. ....... If Turkey really has been waging a war on terror for years that's all the more reason they should support the war on terror now.
And how do their perceptions figure into this? Is this really perceived as the war on terror? What percentage of your public thinks so?
Forget it..

I like your posts and comments from the Turkish perspective. It is comforting knowing that there are pro-America Turks helping us in our fight. Keep up the good work.

What's the "veiled warning" stated by the headline of this article? There was no warning, veiled or otherwise from Bush toward Turkey. Quite the opposite. This is a horrible and deliberately misleading headline.
It appears now that there is probably going to be a significant amount of cooperation on the northern front -- maybe not as originally planned, but significant nonetheless. Why such a horrid headline?
To: Scott from the Left Coast

To screw us both..

Turks stabbed us in the back I won't repeat all the muleteerisms, but Turkey is still a friend. They have to look out for their own interests, and the recent vote in Parliament won't have a longterm effect on the war effort. It might be noted that there is already a great deal of cooperation of many kinds between the US and Turkey, and that will continue.

Is this really necessary? Can't you make a point without resorting to this kind of name-calling and insults?

Just revisited my post (domestic duties, you know....) Anyway, I just want to comment that your posts are straight and honest....and very worthwhile reading. I, too, believe we are getting far more help from the Turks than is obvious.

I couldn't imagine the United States denying the use of our country as a launching point for an invasion. Those Turks are not good allies.
