It started here in CA I think and to be honest, it seems to have been mostly a good result. There are areas of bunk I don't like around the current law where this could be done better. As an example, a trucker in their own vehicle is in the "work-place" and thereby subject to a multi-hundred dollar fine for smoking in the work-place. That is outrageous and is extreme. The spirit if the law was that if there are groups of people together indoors in public or work, there is to be no smoking there. They must either go outdoors or the parking garage and such. California is strapped for cash and they are going after truckers that don't make big bucks. It is an excuse for Gray Davis to blackmail some truckers. I don't like that, they went too far.

LOL! yea, you thought it was a good result! ROFLMAO! Virtually everything you sheep partake in is now under attack by potential taxation! LOL!

Do I care? Hell no you idiot, you got what you deserve!

Want some support from me? Well sheepster, you ain't gonna get it.........

Like they say, they came for the Jews and I wasn't a Jew so I didn't care......... Thanks for your previous support of us smokers. LOL!!!

Walnut, I "get it," too.

Unfortunately, with thirty years and billions of dollars spent brainwashing the public about how eeeeeeviiiiiill tobacco use is, it's going to take more than simple common sense to pull us out of this particular quagmire.

I just ran out
I know how expensive smokes are ( god forbid they couldn't get our tax money) You and I both know they so not want us to not quit smoking or else they would loose a great deal of tax money. you will never see that in writing the smoking natzies have no clue what the government really wants from smokers . we know they don,t want us to stop because they would loose so much revenue. I wonder how much of the loss of revenue would effect the A_spaces

Let's enjoy it while we can. I can still smoke in my home, my car, on the street and everywhere else outside. And I can go to many bars in my city where I can have a great dinner and smoke.

What I find offensive is that too many politicians resort to taxing smokers whenever they want to raise money and still give the appearance they're not raising taxes. We're the scum of the earth, I guess, and we deserve to be taxed to death.

Just stop smoking and your problem is solved. (or do you not have the will and self-discipline to stop)

Whether I have the will or not is my problem and nobody elses'.

You miss the point in this debate.

I hope all smoking Freepers are making their own and NOT paying into the coffers of the anti-smokers who use our own money against us. This is the first time in history a demonized minority has been forced to pay for its own demonization...but it won't be the last.

You know there are jerks and extremist to be read anywhere over any issue, including here on FR every now and then.
Typically though, most of the population just don't want the smoke in public or at work. Nobody cares what smokers do at home and most other places.

It's been good for CA.

The problems in CA stem from Davis growing the budget 40% in just 4 years. He acted like the big revenues coming in from the irrational returns of the stock market were going to continue.
Davis was stupid and that was the ENTIRE reason we have a total tax hole.
The fact that a few billion is lost to illegal aliens in just education money alone, doesn't help at all either.

But what YOU said was just as ridiculous.

I am not sure what constitutional amendment you refer to, but even if 90% voted for an amendment that was unconstitutional or just plan wrong, it's still wrong.

Listening to the press today, it appears vast majorities of the world are against President Bush going into Iraq. Yet, it is still the right thing to do and I harbor no thoughts that President Bush won't do the right thing regardless of the liberal press or outspoken left-wing-nuts such as Jimmy Carter, Tom Daschle, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the appeasement crowd.

Here in Colorado, we have numerous laws passed because people who believed they were voting for the good of the whole actually caused more problems than they realized. It happens around the country in every state and this is exactly why so many conservatives are speaking up against dumb laws and legislators who continue to attempt to impose their will over the people or persuade voters to impose unjust laws on the public.
