Oh they've been irrlevant for quite a while now. It's just that many people are now waking up to the fact.
I(for one)don't really have a problem with someplace where the worlds governments can get togeather and talk about problems, and as such the UN is as good a place as any I suppose. And I guess some of what they do is good, but lets not kid ourselves that they really matter. When the "big boys" decide to do something who really cares about what (say) Cameroon or Madagascar thinks about it.
