Two Bin Laden Sons Said Wounded in Afghan Raid
Fri March 7, 2003 10:48 AM ET
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Two sons of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden were wounded and at least nine suspected al Qaeda members killed in an operation by U.S. and Afghan troops in the far west of Afghanistan, a Pakistani provincial official said on Friday.
U.S. and Afghan troops took part in the operation against supporters of bin Laden in the Ribat area, where the borders of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran meet, on Thursday, Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, home minister of the western province of Baluchistan, told Reuters.
"We have information that two sons of Osama bin Laden were injured," he told Reuters. "The people killed belonged to al Qaeda.
"Pakistani forces did not take part in the operation...it is an Afghan area."
Officers of Pakistan's paramilitary Frontier Corps told Reuters Pakistani forces had launched an operation on Thursday, also involving a few Americans, in pursuit of al Qaeda suspects in the Ribat region.
Pakistani officials said last weekend they had arrested Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a top al Qaeda figure suspected of masterminding the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States
