Blair does not need approval of Parliament to make war. War making power is vested in the monarch. Blair is the Queen's first minister. In relation to war, he operates under what is known as "the royal perogative." Yes, I suppose his party could throw him out as Labor leader, but that is probably unlikely.

True, he doesnt need Parliaments permission. But when I listened to him last week he said he would go back to Parliament before pursuing war if the UN did not give permission. Labour was not happy to give him their votes last week even when he indicated that he would go to war only if the grants appproval. I think they will throw him out very quickly if he orders troops to participate w/o UN authority. Also, I am not at all sure that the Monarch will back him either.
