We got a call at the bar from channel 27. Message was, "because Bush didn't say anything tonight, we will not be interviewing anyone."

And, I stayed sober for this?

You are so right...
Sadly, the effects of 9/11 seemed to have worn off for some Americans. I am convinced that the people who are anti-war or to clarify that, the people who still haven't gotten over the fact that Bush is actually president, will never be convinced. It isn't because there's no proof. It has nothing to do with proof. I suppose there was a period of grieving that the left felt they had to respect. Now it is back to business as usual. So I wonder, after that mushroom cloud rises above New York City, how long would the grieving period be???

Blix isn't just a fact-finder. It's a sensitive political job where absolute truth is not actually the objective. Blix gets a lot of criticism here because most people don't understand the nature of his job at the U.N.

I'll take a stab at it. He was hired by the UN. He is therefore beholden to the employer. If the UN was truley a force, its words would have force behind them. The UN does not have that quality. So, to keep the boss (UN) happy, he is an obedient servant. Acting as he must, to preserve the illusion of imprtance and effectiveness.

I'll be quite happy if I see that charade (the UN) end in my lifetime.

I have spoken to my own ROTC students and heard from several military people, and the "weather" thing is overblown. Remember how supposedly we "couldn't fight" in Afghanistan's mountains. BS. I heard one U.S. military official (maybe Rumsfeld or Franks) say that the timing of the operations would not be driven by weather or "phases of the moon."

I remember that and your correct ..

I'm guessing Blix is busy editing the report he's due to give tomorrow.

Do you guys know that Blix has a 160 page "report" he's NOT giving the UN tomorrow?

it will all spill out.

So you admit we haven't been given evidence that Iraq is behind 9-11. When I thought iraq was the culprit, I was for an immediate attack. After months went by, and no evidence worthy of the name was produced, I started to wonder why we must attack Iraq (instead of merely contain Iraq, the way we're content to do with N Korea).

Didn't Helen Thomas give Ari a hard time at a briefing recently, demanding to know why President Bush hasn't been available for press conferences? I keep thinking of this everytime someone here mentions she isn't there.

She WAS there...I saw her...she had on a red blazer. I was delighted to see that the President did not call on her....the witch!

blix is monica to the u.n.

he will do anything to:

keep his job...

make everybody happy with him...

avoid critism....

avoid conflict...

in other words, he's the perfect suckup, sans blue dress.

Actually, Bush has said that all options are on the table regarding N. Korea.

Our coyness on N. Korea is actually brilliant. Some of the best advice I ever got was, "If THEY need/want YOU at a meeting or event, be there 5 minutes late. If YOU need/want to be at a meeting or event, be there 5 minutes early."

There are lots of countries (some who are hesitant on Iraq) that need us at the N. Korea situation, and Pres. Bush appears to be following the "5 minutes late" rule (ostensibly, anyway).
