Fed up with NPR's biased coverage of Israel?
Let NPR know.
Join the San Francisco NPR protest! The info is as follows:
When: Noon PT - Thursday, March 27, 2003
Where: 101 Market St., San Francisco
Outside the business office of "Working Assets Radio"
http://www.workingforchange.com/radio/contact_radio.cfm?CFID=5595796&CFTOKEN=96409108
Working Assets is a major underwriter of inaccurate and unbalanced Middle East programs on KALW 91.7 FM a San Francisco NPR affiliate. Working Assets also contributes funds to many Palestinian oriented organizations while contributing a much smaller share of funds to mainstream Israeli oriented organizations.
Working Assets through its SF Diversions event list frequently promotes pro-Palestinian events while occasionally mentioning mainstream Israeli oriented events.
Note, the Working Assets/NPR affilated radio station KALW is physically located at another address in San Francisco and we are not protesting at the outlying physical addresses of any NPR radio station in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Public Transit: BART (Embarcadero Station), MUNI, Ferries (Ferry Building)
Parking: Embarcadero Center
Question: I am not in San Francisco. Are there demonstrations anywhere else?
Answer: Yes! On March 27th, friends of Israel will be speaking out all over the country against NPR's biased coverage of Israel and the Middle East. There are demonstrations planned in many cities, including:
Baltimore, MD
Boston, MA
Denver, CO
Hartford, CT
Los Angeles, CA
Philadelphia, PA
Pittsburgh, PA
New York, NY
San Francisco, CA
St. Louis
Washington, DC
More cities are being added daily. Check www.JewishGrassroots.com for more information about a demonstration near you.
Question: What else can we do to persuade NPR to report on Israel fairly and accurately?
Answer: Let NPR know that you will not consider making a contribution until it provides unbiased coverage of the Israel and the Middle East. Only 10% of NPR's budget comes from the government, with the remainder contributed by the public. In Boston, individuals and businesses have withheld well over $1 million out of a $20 million budget.
Contact information for your local NPR affiliate can be found at http://www.npr.org/members/biglist.html
Question: I know NPR's coverage is biased, but where can I find documentation?
Answer: The media-watch organization CAMERA's painstaking research can be found at http://www.camera.org/index.asp?x_context=4&x_outlet=28
Anyone interested in doing this?
The usual suspects (AP, nastypumps, ect)?
It looks like its being organized by the typical liberal Jewish folks (one guy's email ended with "sfpeace"), but we can bring our own special contribution:)

DEMONSTRATION POSTPONED
The following statement has been released by the national protest organizer. "Although all of us are eager to find a way to induce National Public Radio to cover Israel fairly and accurately, the casualties among American soldiers in Iraq make this an extremely awkward time at which to hold a demonstration on the issue of slanted reporting. After consulting with many of you, we have decided to urge that we postpone this demonstration. While a new date has not yet been selected, we fully expect to reschedule this event, and to hold demonstrations in an even larger list of cities."
And yes, Drango, I read the same thing at their site, so I'm gonna take their word for it. The timing isn't great, so maybe we'll FReep this one at a later date...
