Let the democrats carp all they want. During the Clinton years, we had an attack on the World Trade Center, on The Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia, on the Cole, and on embassies in Africa, to name a few. We had a treaty with North Korea regarding nuclear proliferation that cost us a ton of money, and was violated before Clinton's signature had dried. In Iraq, Saddam violated every term of every resolution, and was rewarded with a couple of stray missiles and a feckless pullout of the feckless inspectors. Osama bin Laden was offered to Clinton on a silver platter, and he passed. Airline safety regulations that would have made it tougher for terrorists were ruled out, in fear of violating the sensibilites of the PC crowd.

Clinton did nothing to halt the spread of terrorism, nothing to halt the spread of nuclear weapons, nothing to force Saddam to meet his international obligations, and nothing to make Americans safer in their homes. You have to be a blind partisan of the left to criticize Bush while ignoring that eight years of Clinton has clearly led up to this day.

I love this article, and I love Mark Steyn (he is #1), But...

The State Department gets a bad rap partially because they are responsible for finding a diplomatic solution to problems that don't have diplomatic solutions. Powell has done a good job as Good Cop under those huge constraints. Why should we expect the State Department to be better than the UN could ever possibly be?

With that said, the Clinton hold-overs need to be out of there because they have too much CYA to do to be effective...
