According to the IRNA agency, the bombing near Sharjeh resulted in the explosion of an oil refinery near Kirkuk.

C'mon, posting this crap only makes the site look stupid.
Disagree. You run this stuff up the flag pole. This group, aside from the tinfoil kooks, is very good at getting to the bottom of things. If I ran across this, I would have probably posted it. The scoop has to come from somewhere.

Still not seeing other reporting. I don't believe it.

There are not 2,500 oil fields in the entire world. Might they mean oil WELLS? In any case it's BS.

Checked the German version of this . . . http://de.rian.ru/rian/index.cfm?prd_id=567&msg_id=3080143&startrow=21&date=2003-03-06&do_alert=0
Basically it reads as follows:
For the purpose of destroying thier own oil wells and oil drilling areas, Irak has already "bombed" about 2,500 targets in an several dozend square kilometer wide area.
According to the iranian news agency INRA, a powerful refinery explosion near Kirkuk, in the Shurjeh region, was the result of the "bombardment".
Some of the oil wells have been mined with anti tank mines. Empahsis mine
In order to protect themselves against the US Army and to build a defensive belt, the Iraqi Army is digging trenches and canals in the Bagdad and Kirkuk area with Bulldozers

Maybe our Russian friends are warning us!

Now, the President can make the speech announcing that, in light of Iraq's actions, we have decided to go ahead.
Doggone it. Saddam is joining the Coalition Of The Willing.
He wants to be a winner for once. Even sneakier than I thought.

It sounds like this article is claiming that the explosion in Kirkuk was the result of demolition work. The German Translation was "bad". It seems that the "Russian" version is sent through something like Babelfish to get the other language versions.
To: BillCompton
Considering "Russia" covers 11 time zones this is a remarkable statement.
That was the Soviet Union, I think. Russia is only three or four.
To: HoustonCurmudgeon
Well, yes, there are more than 2,500 oil fields in the world, especially if you include all those that have been abandoned. I think the (bogus) article was trying to imply that Iraq has wired 2,500 of its own wells - which is doubtful in its own right.
To: An.American.Expatriate
So only one oil field was bombed with 2,500 total explosions to avoid detection?

I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED YOUR USE OF THE WORD "HOAX" IN YOUR KEYWORDS.....26 DAYS EARLY FOR APRIL FOOLS!!!

.
Bombs dropped on Iran? What, is Saddam trying to provoke a war with IRAN? That would surely muck things up for the US Forces.
I don't believe that he dropped bombs on his own oil wells. He would rig them to explode instead.
