Overall a nice article on the man, but I found something stressed in the beginning that disturbed me.
What in the world is the Secretary of Defense doing needing to sign a req for saddles and tack? Shouldn't this all be going on at a lower level? I'd like to know more about this before making a judgement, but is there a problem with micromanagement here?

These effete European snots are total morons if they really imagine that Rumsfeld is a vacuous cowboy. It's a measure of the emptiness of their own heads that they think this way.
No doubt if Julius Caesar or Cesare Borgia came back from the dead, these decadent nitwits would call them stupid cowboys too.
Here's news for the chablis crowd: It's possible to be firm, resolute, and even ruthless when circumstances call for it AND STILL BE SMART.

Not to worry.
The sheriff in "High Noon" had a good woman back him up...
Dubya appears to have a solid lady ready to steady him...

The right man, at the right place, at the right time, doing the right things, the right way. Providence, baby.
