I think the talk show host should have buttons made up and distributed that say:

Not My Teacher.
I'm Not That Dumb.

Just a thought.

Latest column, not yet up on UPI, and FR, "Truth, the First Casualty?"

Latest book(let), "to Restore Trust in America."

The web site it FreeRepublic.com. I know public schools make it difficult to learn to read, but now that you are all grown up, you should make the effort to learn.

She has every right to free speech.
She DOES NOT have the right to abuse her role as a representative of the School district.
She DOES NOT have the right to run her very own "re-education camp" using the children and the tax dollars of the region to do it.
She DOES NOT have the right to claim some type of moral high ground with regard to her preference for peace rather than war. For the sake of ethical consistency, did she protest the last Gulf War? Did she wear her snotty little button when former President Clinton was slaughtering Christians in Kosov? I'm guessing the answer to both is NO.
She obviously has limited skills and very low ambitions. She doesn't like to actually work and true academia is well beyond her grasp. I respect the fact that she knows her limitations.
If she has any shred of honor, she must apologize and resign quietly.
Why do I doubt that will happen?

It's ashame that adults are permitted to go on a rant like this. The kids are a captive audience. They have to sit there and listen to it. Adults can just walk out.

I wonder what subject she teaches? Hope it's not math.

You're right, don't hold your breath waiting for her to do penance. From her record, this radical beetch is hard-core. They thrive on these kinds of flaps and love their 15 minutes of fame because it brings attention to their cause. She knows what she's doing.

She's probably getting calls from all over the country from leftist feminazis and noted academics congratulating her and pumping her up. She undoubtedly will have job offers and invitation to talk shows.

She's no babe in the woods. Know thy enemy.

Fine. Let the teacher wear her button, but she shouldn't object when kids wear their, "Traitors Should Be Hung" buttons.

She was giving a reasoned professional opinion based on her knowledge. That's fine. She was probably willing to discuss your opinion in a calm and collected manner.

Ms. Swisher sounds like she is letting her emotions get the best of her, especially with the incident regarding the NRA bumper sticker.

Can't the students in class simply tell the teacher that her button makes them feel "uncomfortable" or "threatened" or "offended?"

What makes you think any of them were?

In the original article the whole brouhaha started when a student came home and asked his mother why his teacher would be against the war.

The mother is the one that called the school and turned this issue into a thermo-nuclear event.

So far, none of the reporting I've seen from ANY source, Liberal or otherwise has stated that any student was "uncomfortable" or "threatened" or "offended".

It all started with a student's question.

More students should question. More parents should call the school to clarify what exactly did the teacher say in her classroom.

I think this whole thing could be solved if the students could wear a button like "my teacher is a idiot lefty" or " my teacher is a stupid bitch".

Does anyone remember listening to Sean Hannity (WABC) a couple of years ago when a female high school student from New Jersey called him to complain about the treatment she was getting in her history class by her teacher? Apparently, she was conservative in her thinking, and her history teacher mocked her out about it -- actually ridiculed her in class. He also stated that George Bush wasn't his president.

Well, she called Hannity once a week to give an update on how she and her teacher were getting along in American History 101. Hannity wanted to debate this guy on TV, but he refused. Hannity offered to even send a limo to pick him up and take him to the studio, but the gutless creep still refused. Then the "teacher" tried to say the girl was crazy, that he didn't ridicule her in class, but there were several students who signed affidavits saying otherwise.

Hannity said something to the effect that if she got a poor grade in his class to please contact him. My guess is she passed the class with flying colors.

Sent an email to this "teacher". Thanks for supplying us with the address!

and the liberal NEA wonders why so many parents support vouchers and/or are sending their children to private schools or choosing to homeschool! I chose homeschool and private school my daughters after hearing tales of their geography teacher telling his class that "the Red Sea incident never happened" and that the pyramids were built by poor Egyptians "because their fields were flooded"! This "teacher" also taught in the now infamous MAINE school system!

More students should question.

I agree. I ask my kids all the time, "What did you ask the teachers today?"

It's as much their job to question as it is the teacher's.

You really think that would solve the whole thing? Or do you think it might be like throwing a water balloon at a hornet's nest? Actions like that tend to incite not placate.

{"Teachers have a right to freedom of expression, but not when that expression disrupts the learning process" by trying to convince students of a teacher's point of view. }

This is a bunch of left wing spin. I bet this school district would instantly fire any teacher who wore a button that said "Choose Life" or "Jesus is my King." According to the NEA, freedom of expression only applies to liberal values. while, conservatives views are divisive and hateful. This NEA hack deserves to be freeped to the Nth degree.

You don't see anything wrong with teachers indoctrinated your children? They are required to provide an education and prohibited from indoctrination.

Partisan politics in the classroom, be it kindergarden or a university, is unprofessional.
