Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, after lying low for most of her first two years, is emerging as one of the Senate's most prominent and influential Democrats, moving aggressively on fundraising and policy matters and fueling speculation that she plans to run for president in 2008.

The only first lady to have served in the Senate, Clinton is playing a key role in a behind-the-scenes effort to create at least one new political group, funded with so-called soft money, to promote the Democratic agenda in the 2004 elections and beyond, Democratic officials said. With her help, leading Democrats are putting the finishing touches on a new "activist think tank" designed to crank out policy ideas and disseminate them to voters without running afoul of the new campaign finance laws, the officials said.

Hillary was similarly trivialized as she campaigned for that Senate seat against Rick Lazio (after pulling Moynihan’s FBI file and telling him to resign). People took her lightly and now suffer the consequences.

Her being in charge of the War Room on Estrada has turned out to be true. Finally someone writes that she is the force. Usually they just name Daschle, Leahy, Reid, but this time it lays it at the feet of the "evil one" and now no one can deny it.

We have to defeat the Hillary RATs on Estrada -- losing is not an option. Sure explains the hardball approach and the word that went out to Senators not to sponsor anything with this woman or be seen in the same picture.

I think that was totally a call by President Bush. I think he did want to be in charge of what be termed by the leftist press as a "witch hunt". Now when they both ended up wearing orange jumpsuits because they would have been convicted, the President would have been right. But that outcome would have soiled the Presidency even more.

Oh yes I totally agree. I think the president should have had Ascroft nail them. But he did what he thought was right and since I believe in him and his principles, I'll trust him.

But if it was me there would be a congressional committee dedicated to their crimes against this country!!
