WASHINGTON (CNN) -- With the United States beefing up its military might around Iraq, another 60,000 troops -- including all 17,000 soldiers of the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division -- received orders to deploy to the Persian Gulf region, military officials said Monday.

W assembled one hell of a powerful and sharp bunch of advisers. He loves the military (unlike all dims)
He knows what he is doing. I have faith in them and I pray for them as well as our brave soldiers.
I would bet money that all the turkey talk is just that. Its to fool soddom. When we hit him it will be a suprise, just like the last time.
This is no half assed attempt like nam. We are talking about the most powerful force on earth with wise men in charge of it.
Right now our best soldiers are in Iraq creating confusing, and putting lasers on thousands of the most important military installations in Iraq.
As the puter salesboy from dell says to soddom "dude, youre going to hell"

Killeen, TX is going to be hurting. Civilian businesses always suffer when the troops are out of town.

Hello Freepers (and Lurkers)...

I could probably start an entire thread with this discussion, but I figured that I would just throw this up real quick.

I NEED YOUR HELP...

I have an friend down the street that tells me things about guns, hunting and especially the military that I know are false. Now, when someone tells me that the sky is any color other than blue, I tend to argue. I have been around guns my entire life, and I (with help from freepers) have a very good grasp of the military. I know about military guns, ammo, jets, missiles, Naval vessels w/ complement, etc.

Now this individual constantly tells me things that are inaccurate and although I argue, he is quite adamant about the things he states. I know many, if not all of the things he says are bogus. I would like to ask you for help, especially those of you who are in the military, or were in the military. I know you all can help me, you are a very smart bunch a' cookies...OK?

Just reply to this article, I'll be checking it out here and there for responses. Just confirm, or deny the statements that will follow, or even paste a link so that I can verify information for myself.

My friend tells me that he was in the Army. I have my doubts to what exactly he was involved in/ with. One day he says that he used to be in the Delta Force, the next day he was in the Rangers and so on. He supposedly cross-trained with the Airborne. When I asked him about his designation, he says he was an 11V, but cross-trained as...a medic, a sniper, etc. He never tells you specific information, such as boot camp or etc. Friends of mine that were in the Airborne will tell you all knds of stuff, but he has no colorful stories. (I know, I know...this is the tip of the iceberg).

He tried telling me that:

* The military used the Ruger Mini 14 in VietNam in between the M-14 and the M-16.

* It was OK to possess and even use a silencer so long as it was permenantly attatched to the muzzle.

* While in the Army, he was stationed in Korea, Germany, Grenada, and Somalia (even though he can't properly pronounce Mogadishu).

* He carried an AR-15 of his (which I have seen and fired before) in the service, and brought it home with him. Funny that he would carry a civilian gun, heh?

* The 9mm luger is a super-sonic round. I told him that the 9MM is one of the slowest bullets around, @ about 950 fps. Oh no, he insists...the 9mm is supersonic.

* High-power sniper rifles always have silencers and laser-sights. Of course he trained with one in the special forces.

* If you parachute out of a helicopter, the force of the rotors will pull you up, so you have to be careful. I know, I know...you are not telling me anything new...

* It's illegal to kill a fox here in Ohio. When I showed him the dates for fox season in the hunting laws (I read the laws every year! He and other people quote bogus info. from the book all the time!), he always says..."well it used to be illegal in the 80's when I started hunting". Actaully, I could post another entire thread on the bogus hunting info. that he relays to me.

I've hunted with him, and he wore military BDU's, just as I do. I bought mine at the gun shows, and removed the name tag and the Army tag. His name tag was missing too, but he said (get this) that his mother went through his BDU's and removed the name tag.

Whenever you confront him with any issue, he'll backtrack and change the tune a little. I need a way to confirm his military career, short of paying for the info. I leave this tale for you, my fellow freeps, tell me what ya got!

I'm beginning to wonder if we have something much larger in mind than just Saddam.

Oh, you mean like a world wide war on terror? Hunting down terrorists where ever they hide and toppling terrorist regimes and attacking states that harbor them? Smoking them out of their hiding places and putting them on the run forever?

C'mon! Nobody is going to take you seriously if you keep making up such wild eyed scenarios.

So what's left if North Korea decides to get frisky while we're stuck in Iraq?

You know, the sad thing is that we're over a barrel when it comes to nukes and North Korea. There is no way that we can drop the big one on them without the fallout hitting South Korea or Japan, or Russia or China for that matter, and doing more damage to our allies that to the North Koreans.

His little game is not funny to people who served - especially in the units he claims to have served in.

I suggest you do play a game with him. Tell him your buddies that were in the same units were amazed at how many new guys (cherries) didnt know how to use their turnbuckles on their descent in a parachute.

Then let it go while he agrees. Come back 5 minutes later and ask him how the turnbuckles work, of course they don't exist except in newbie games at Bragg. But get a detailed analysis of how to use them and encourage him by insisting everybody in an airborne, ranger or special op unit knows them like the back of their hand.

Very interesting scenario. Would make a good movie. With that tinderbox and collection of half-wits in that area of the world who knows.
