Oklahoma City Rally for America
3-03-03 | yukong

Posted on 03/03/2003 6:25:57 PM PST by yukong

Just wanted to let everyone know that this evening, approximately 6000 great Oklahomans, young and old, gathered at 50 Penn Place for a Rally for America to show support to our president and our troops. It lasted for over an hour and a half. It was fantastic. I was so proud of my fellow Oklahomans. And the local ABC affiliate was present, taping greetings to service men and women, from anyone who wanted to speak. They will be sending those tapes to our military. Also, there was a huge postcard, that was massive, and everyone signed the postcard, put inspirational messages on the card, and prayers of support. I took about 60 pictures, and as soon as I can, I will post a few if anyone is interested.

God Bless American, our President and our troops!

What's pretty neat about this rally, is about 2/3 rds of the people present couldn't even see the stage or the speakers, yet they stayed. This was held inside 50 Penn Place. It is a 20+ story office building with a 3 level mall. The bottom floor of the mall was packed, shoulder to shoulder. Then the second and third floors were packed as well, and those people couldn't see anything. They could only hear, yet they stayed the full 1 1/2 hours, cheer, chanting and celebrating. It was beautiful.

We must have been standing pretty close to each other. Hubby and I were right in front, two people behind the VFW Color Guard

I guess so. I was right in the middle, standing on the front edge of that small carpeted area. My mother had to have been right by you. She kept moving further and further up front, and at the end, was just a person or two behind the Color Guard. I have some photos that may have you in them. What were you wearing?

Here is an article from www.ktok.com that talks about the rally.

~ Huge Crowd Cheers Rally For America

Clear Channel Radio's "Rally For America" drew a crowd estimated at 6,000 by security officials at 50 Penn Place Monday afternoon. The event, held to allow Oklahomans to show support for men and women in uniform, featured remarks by Governor Brad Henry, Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys and Congressman Ernest Istook. Military and veterans' groups officials also spoke to the enthusiastic crowd that filled the first three levels of the retail/office center and spilled out into the parking lot. The crowd erupted in sustained applause and cheers as members of the Oklahoma Military Order of the Purple Heart were called to the stage. The crowd erupted in a chorus of "Thank You, Thank You" that brought tears to the eyes of some of the veterans. One Vietnam veteran said he was thanked more in an hour during the rally than he has been in the years since he returned from Vietnam. L. J. Smith, Clear Channel's Regional Vice President of Programming, said the event was among the finest he's experienced in more than two decades of participation in public events. -
