Anti-filibuster editorial in today's Washington Post,
Layers of Nonsense :
The question at stake in the Democratic filibuster of Mr. Estrada's nomination ultimately has nothing to do with race or with Mr. Estrada's allegedly inadequate answers. It is simply whether a conservative president can reliably place on an appeals court a qualified conservative against whom no serious complaint has been made. The answer must be yes; for if he cannot, the courts will become the province of those anodyne centrists whose views don't offend anyone with power.
I must say I still don't understand why a cloture vote would tear up the Constitution. Isn't that already being done by the RATs' filibuster?

Rush:
Gonna sound convoluted. strategy is "weird". Dems are filibustering but won't use word (Maybe that's why Hatch keeps saying it-- RobFromGa). Rush again not a filibuster till cloture vote

Says we've heard Republicans are standing firm, plus the President had made his very strong statementHe most certainly did. He said that, then along came the Fox story contradicting it. He's back from break.

Thats even slow for dialup. You might not have enough memory available to load pages unless the are written to your disk. If you have other programs running at the same time try shutting them down. Also, run maintenance utilities to delete temporary files.

The people moving to New Mexico actually vote. I've only been here thirty years.
The people I see moving here voting Democrat.
I worked on the campaign of Bill Redmond who won Richardson's seat in a special election, lost to Udall for Congress, and lost to Bingaman (Beijingaman) for the Senate in 2000.
Richardson won handily against John Sanchez.
I don't see the demographics of New Mexico showing a reduction in Hispanics, and with Richardson's popularity, their vote will likely remain Democrat.
Having said that, I intend to remain proactive.

Rush:
Dems want to avoid filibuster so as not to set precedent, maybe there are more votes than 55, this is sounding lame Rush, no one is happy to be changing the Constitution,
Republicans don't want to call cloture.

Rush:
Strategy is that the Senators have respect for Senate, don't want to change rules.
I don't think Rush sounds like he particularly likes the explanation he is giving for this.

Rush: The strategy is (he doesn't know if this is what will ultimately happen)...
Rush "I've been under a mis-impression"
The strategy is to keep calling the vote and keep making the dems are on record time and again voting against the first hispanic nominee to this bench. This could change, but that is the current plan.

The"plan" is foolish. The simple answer is a full, all out fillibuster 24/7.
To: RobFromGa
Rush says it sounds like a game of chicken.

There's another part of the 3/5th possibility that sticks in my head. Say, we have 60 people who SAY they will vote for Estrada and then ONE doesn't when it comes down to the actual vote.
Do you trust the DEMS??

Rush:
GOP will keep calling cloture votes.
I actually agree that this will probably happen. But we must force 24/7 to get momentum. Gulf War 2 is going to end it if nothing else does.
Fox Story last week not accurate, not caving, but vote will make Dems take a stand and start a real filibuster.
