I renewed my in October 2002, in GA, and I didn't get my fingerprint scanned. So, I have no idea what the rest of the state is up to, but in my county, I wasn't required to give my fingerprint.

What county are you in? I got mine scanned in Dekalb but when I renewed in White it was simply copied from my previous scan. I'm not sure if this is by county or if after 1999 it was voluntary. In 1999 I wasn't given a choice.
