Students at hundreds of high schools are planning a walkout on Wednesday to protest the Bush Administration's plans for war in Iraq.
The 'student strike' is being coordinated by the National Youth and Student Peace Coalition, an organization of 15 student groups that came together after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The coalition, which calls the action 'Books not Bombs,' has linked student protests against war in Iraq with a call for better financed schools.
'Were getting about 10 schools a day contacting us to participate, and it's probably about 35-40 percent high schools, said Andy Burns, an organizer who is signing up schools from his office in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Mr. Burns said he expected about 300 colleges and high schools to participate in the walkout.
Many of the students organizing next weeks actions have portrayed the latest round of tuition increases at state colleges and universities as a 'war tax' on the poor.

On a related note, I heard the guys on FOX this morning talking about something Colin Powell told this idiot Iraqi journo who pointed out that only 13% of young adults in this country could find Iraq on a map. Powell said something along the lines of: Unfortunately for Iraq, they're all Marines. LOL.

Why don't these teenagers get a job? Better yet, study their constitution for God's sake. What are these school faculty and administrators preparing these students to be.....the future generation of half wits?

Previous FR thread on the student walkout (different source)

The linked website, unitedforpeace.org seems to be the clearinghouse for this sort of nonsense.

You're right. One unfortunate side effect of the sixties radicalism is that teaching was a draft deferral and resulted in an inordinate percentage of idiots with teaching credentials.

I have always told Jonathan that ever since the American Revolution there has always been 1/3 of the people who oppose, 1/3 who have no opinion and 1/3 who have fought and made this country what it is today....I've told him to be apart of the ones who shaped this great country and fight for it.

I looked at the supporting groups of the coalition and it seems to have a pro-Arab viewpoint 'Return to Palestine' Committeee etc.

Look for the sheep, the cows, the nellies and keep an eye out for the pigs. Oh, and keep an eye out for the dogs who wear masks. Not one of the sheep, the cows, or the nellies ever read Animal Farm or if they did, they did so mindlessly. The pigs will use it as an operation manual. The dogs will get their reward, sex and drugs, from the pigs. I just hope the schools have plenty of mules.

- Properly disciplined, this act should be enough to drop a few of them out of contention for the colleges of their choice. (But it will never happen.) -
School districts ought to punish the pro-Saddam students who walk out during school hours. But, they won't. "Peace" protests are probably part of the NEA's lesson plan for the young skulls full of mush.
I wonder if school districts will permit Pro-America students to walk out during school hours?

Hi, If students today are like they were when I was in High School, most of these are doing it because their teachers are telling them to, and are rewarding them with time off from class. .
