Bush says US will disarm Saddam now
Agence France-Presse | 3/01/03

US President George W. Bush said in an interview that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has no intention of disarming and the United States must now force him to do so.

"My attitude about Saddam Hussein is that if he had any intention of disarming, he would have disarmed," Bush said in the interview published Friday in USA Today. "We will disarm him now."

"Putting off a decision will mean there will be greater sacrifices in the future," the president told USA Today.

Bush called war his "last option" but said he believed Americans "fully understand" there may be a military onslaught soon, the paper reported.

"I've thought long and hard about the consequences and the price that could be paid," the president said.

USA Today said Bush expressed little concern about debate at the United Nations, the prospect of a veto of a resolution that would clear the way for war or the opposition of some traditional US allies.

Seeking a second UN resolution that could authorize war was first and foremost "a commitment to our allies and friends," he said.

But he added: "The most important part about whatever happens is that (Saddam) be disarmed."

Bush's decisions are driven by his belief that the Iraqi leader is a threat to the United States and the world, the paper said.

"We're still a battlefield," he said. "Part of that war is dealing with a dictator who can serve as an arsenal and/or training ground for terrorist networks."

He said he did not want US citizens to ask in the future: "Where was President Bush? How come he didn't act on behalf of the security of the American people?"

I support President Bush. Yes

I do too, but I'm getting a little tired of waiting for our talk to translate into action!

Since I'm not privy to all the information that President Bush has, I will presume that there are very good reason for the wait. I would prefer that all things are in place for the utmost safety of our troops, rather than see a premature attack.

IF we go in at this point, it will have to be big, quick, decisive, and COMPLETELY reveal EVERYTHING we have been saying about Hussein. Otherwise, Bush is out in 2004, and we will have another Clinton in the White House. The US, instead of the UN, will be irrelevant.

With Bush out & Hillary in, we can also expect the credibility of the Republican Congress to quickly fade, and we will be in the midst of the mess we were in during x42's administration.

What I'm saying is, not only are we risking the cave-in to terrorism, but the complete destruction of the Conservative movement as we know it today. Conservatives have led the way since 9/11, and the American public knows this and is in agreeance with it.

At this point, we can count on one of two things:

1.) The cementing of the Conservative movement as we know it today by a victory in Iraq SOON, or

2.) The complete destruction of the Conservative movement, and a return to unlawful, un-Constitutional, degrading, slimey rule by Democrats, who will have used the farce to add to their ranks and bolster their following.

Of course, I'm hoping for the former, but at this point, I don't have a whole lot of faith - we (Conservatives) are already headed down the path to destruction.

I hope you're right. I'd hate to see this whole mess come back to haunt President Bush. The leftist press whittles away at the Presidents popularity rating with every passing day. As you say, we don't have ALL the facts but I hope we aren't waiting in vain.

The more I read and see the antiWar mainstream coverage, the more I agree with your stark assessment, the nation and perhaps the world is now polarized into two angry sides. We can now either watch the conservative American dream vanish or be exhalted... there is no comfy middle scenario.

All things work for the good for them that love Him.

Have confidence in God.

And lighten up! :-)

The left has decided to draw the line here. It is their last desperate attempt to stop Bush before they sink even deeper into irrelevancy.

I don't know if I agree that waiting is good... here is my rant:

it seems the longer Bush waits, the more public opinion damages his position. The more angry his opposition becomes, the less support he will have despite success in Iraq. The opposition is so upset that they will deny anything positive came out of it... if US troops found nuclear weapons in Iraq, many will deny it for the sake of their egos.

If they claim he's lying now, what makes you think they won't claim he's lying about a success in Iraq? Undeniable proof means nothing to idealogues. I believe the phrase "history is what we agree upon" applies to this. The idealogues will rewrite history to fit their view, they don't care. This is why conservatives need to avoid the public opinion spin trap! it is pointless, the key to accomplishing nothing, but letting a lot of people feel good, blah.

Bush needs to act, the longer you let these people whine, the more rooted they become in their irrationality. I think this has permanently damaged Bush, it is scary. If we have another democrat in office I will be bummed.

Go Bush Go!

How are we to define the word now? Is it to mean just a matter of days, a matter of weeks, or maybe just a month or two? How about in the next 30 minutes?

To me, looks like more endless bull-shit from a politician.

LOL! I have tried to stay the course, and 'lighten up'. In fact, I was a heck of a lot lighter when the Pubbies took over last year. About the only thing keeping me going at this point is the thought that Bush et al HAVE to know SOMETHING that they're not saying. My hope is that something is HUGE!

I tend to agree. Waiting for permission from the communist cabals of Europe and the UN is not helping us any.
