McCarthy was not disturbed in the least. Communists made it a goal to take over hollywoood, and they almost suceeded. Led by avowed marxist thugs.
Prior to McCarthy, only one man had the gumption to expose them. You may have heard of him.
Ronald Reagan.
He was a million-dollar actor at the time. And broke communist-led strikes. And brought on board many other actors, who refused to play the communist line. He was right, way early on.
Now they are back. They never really went away, just laid dormant, licking their wounds. Control freaks.
Communists know the value of owning media. It is their first target, when trying to take over a country. Fill their heads with mush.
Then take over the schools, fill thier heads with socialist mush. Then confiscate guns.

From "Reagan's War," pg 11:
"By taking the assignement, Reagan was stepping foresquare into the middle of a testy labor dispute.....After one take at a beach scene, Regan was summoned to the telephone. When he picked up the receiver, a voice he didn't recognize threatened to see to it thathe never made films again. If he continued to oppose the CSU strike, the caller said, "a squad" would disfigure his face with acid."

Thanks.
and I do recognize Reagan for taking a courageaous stand...very early on. This prepared him for his great work decades later "Tear down this wall.".
He is probably more responsible thatn any other single person for the fall of communism. (Great man theory).

Don't forget Whittaker Chambers. :-) Lots of leftists act like Alger Hiss came out of nowhere to become the archetypal Poor Persecuted Progressive, but the road to truth begins when you understand how and why Chambers made him (in)famous.
