[history]
In perhaps its most forceful effort yet to break the stalemate over the appeals-court nomination of Miguel Estrada, the White House has now invited every member of the Senate who has doubts about Estrada's legal views to submit written questions to Estrada by the close of business Friday. In a letter delivered Thursday to all 100 senators, White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales said Estrada will respond by next Tuesday.

Even though the goal is to get 60 Senators to vote for cloture, I believe the short term goal is get the number to 59 and then single one Senator out as the one who is holding things up. Then you go into a full-court press in the media, singling out the one Senator who is blocking everything, and try to get that one Senator to relent under the pressure.
As long as there are five or six Senators hanging tough, it will be easier for them to continue hanging tough. The Republicans need to create a situation where they can isolate one Senator and dump the entire weight of the problem on him.

Surprisingly, Rush on occasion can be wrong. He was wrong about the "new tone" and admitted that maybe Bush had it right after all. He has, on occasion, made a mistake.
As I said, either Rush doesn't understand, or he is providing cover by ranting like we are giving up.
I do wish you wouldn't go off on a tangent without thinking things through. I don't believe you watched the proceedings in the Senate the other night, or you would not be wringing your hands now.

And the hits just keep on coming....
My point as well, the dems don't want to answer questions cuz they aren't objecting to him on merit, they're objecting to him because he's CONSERVATIVE!
Hopefully this tactic will expose that and make them run for cover as Estrada is confirmed.

You are right. The next litmus test is "Are you now or have you ever been a practicing Catholic?"Or how about: "Are you a 'born-again' Christian?"

My faith in the integrity and intelligence of President Bush, Frist, and Hatch as well as their statements that they will not give up on Estrada puts me in the camp of wait and see.
We've all seen that time and again Bush has confounded his adversaries and has achieved his goals by innovative means. His methods remind me of the old adage that "there's more than one way to skin a cat".

Oh, that's a really good idea. Attack a woman on the floor of the House. Is Rush suggesting this again? If he is serious, he has lost it.

I sincerely hope you are right, but I think you and too many freepers are way too optimistic. Novak is not an analyst who could be fooled by the dems. And he is a tried and true anti-abortion conservative. It is not the Kennedys and Clintons that would worry him. It is much more likely that the resolve of Chafee, Spector, Collins and several other pro-abortion republican senators is about ready to collapse. Of course, their real position would be hidden behind something along the lines of "we can't allow the nomination of one judge to bring the important work of the senate to a standstill."
That's BS for sure, but more than likely will work. That is what makes me less confidant than the rest of the freeper community.

My point as well, the dems don't want to answer questions cuz they aren't objecting to him on merit, they're objecting to him because he's CONSERVATIVE! Hopefully this tactic will expose that and make them run for cover as Estrada is confirmed. The problem is exposure. There was literally no coverage in the daily papers after the Senate stayed in session until 2:00am. The media is definitely suppressing this story.
The question now is: will this tactic force media coverage or will it stay in the black hole of news?

and Rush is frosted about this whole thing.99 percent of us here don't care whether Rush is "frosted about this" or not.
Of course, 99 percent of us can think for ourselves and don't have to wait until a radio show or a newspaper column comes out to decide what position to take.
