In perhaps its most forceful effort yet to break the stalemate over the appeals-court nomination of Miguel Estrada, the White House has now invited every member of the Senate who has doubts about Estrada's legal views to submit written questions to Estrada by the close of business Friday. In a letter delivered Thursday to all 100 senators, White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales said Estrada will respond by next Tuesday.

Yep sure he is.......LOL

You said this to me when I said Rush was under a false impression.

Wasn't very nice to laugh at me when I turned out to be correct, was it?

The pubs are standing firm. Quotes out of context. Just wanted to give you a heads up if you decide not to slog through the whole thread and are left with the WRONG IMPRESSION.

I would suggest that the Gop get better PR out there when these type of problems or stories arise

I would suggest that YOU do not give the GOP any suggestions. To: aristeides

Note that Sharpton admits here something that the neocon fanatics on this board have hysterically denied: Lott was joking.

BUMP
I am done supporting our fake President and fake conservatives and republicans that are just liberals!
Baah on it all! Ann was right Bush is a liberal Clinton!

"I have full faith in President Bush as I know he will stand behind Estrada till the end."

So do I, just hope he does get to creative in his determination; he just needs to get the heads of those DemocRATS in a power lock.

Did not like Rush, theorizing that Repubs could wait and as we proceed with war efforts and 'win'. . .that the Dems will then fall into place. . .

Not a 'win' strategy for Estrada. . .he is top priority and must stay that way.

I see them. How many times is this now?

I'm so tired of the ones that are Chicken Littles, but I really am tired of the ones spreading misinformation for their own personal interest.

The rats lost an election big time, lost ground in the house, historic loss of senate control, gave in on a war resolution most of them despise, fail to get Bush's poll numbers to drop, failed to maintain union rights in the homeland security fight.....I'd say you are the one not being observant!

I kept saying I was getting off and then realized that first Sessions and then Lindsey Graham were going to talk and ended up with Senator Frist putting a lot of items in the record!

It was a great time, wasn't it?

I got to bed much earlier last night myself. LOL

You are expecting rational actions from people who have been cornered and who have nothing left to lose. In observing people you need to place yourself in their shoes first. The rats are in denial about why they lost. Plus, they are at the point of having nothing left to lose and and when someone gets to that point they become cornered and dangerous.

They lost the presidency and the house and recently the senate with little hope of regaining anything soon. All they have left is the ability to use a filibuster and a core group that wants them to stop Bush's judges. If they fail at that they lose their core group.

To observe that the rats will act in a way to limit their loses is to discount human nature. No, they will fight to the end on this because they have nothing left to lose.

Many freepers have no idea how key this battle really is for the rats. This is their last stand as they are currently organized. A failure on this will be the demise of the current power base controlling the rats. I don't believe they will give up on this. Further I don't see the R's finding a way to push this over the edge in the current political environment.

Their best chance is to avoid the final war and get one rat at a time to convert but experience tells me that won't happen. What I do suspect will happen is that Bush will be able to use his political capital after the war is over to beat the crap out of some of the rats and only then will the rats cave.

The next two years of Republican rule in the Senate has come down to this showdown over Estrada. The Republicans cannot afford to back down on this issue, because there is no tomorrow if they lose this.

The Democrats are throwing everything they have left at this, burning all their bridges along the way on their scorched-earth strategy. That, in itself, is telling in that the Clinton's have a long history of not abiding by any of the long-held traditions that have prevailed in our government bodies. The fact that the Democrats, who have often harkened back to the grand traditions of the Senate, are so quick to throw it all away over this nomination tells me that they recognize that this is the high-water mark for them and they are willing to do whatever it takes to keep power.

The Republicans must realize that they are being forced into a position of having to do whatever it takes to keep power, no matter how distateful that may be to their senses.

There is no tomorrow for them if they lose this.

I never fail to mention Hitlary when I call Republican senators and advise them to watch their backs with her. As far as I am concerned, Hillary Clinton is our #1 Enemy! And, I don't say this lightly. I have read just about everyword written about her and she is one scarey person. I am convinced she has Dashole by the short hairs. Sorry to be so blunt--not very lady like I know, but at age 63 I find I just don't give a damn anymore!

Did Santorum say yesterday that "we can't keep this up forever"? Garrett didn't make that up out of thin air.

If the Republicans want to show a strong front, then they need to muzzle their frustration.

Unlike most of you here, I don't believe the Republicans have some kind of grand strategy. They're just going to try to wear the Democrats down on this.

Giving them three-day weekends is just the first step. Keeping the Democrats away from the Senate floor frustrates them, you see.

It's all becoming clearer now.
