Holy cow, that was good.

Meanwhile an American president and a British prime minister, the target of this domestic vitriol and self-loathing, once again stand nearly alone against fascism. Because they do, we know the ending of this sad spectacle.I can't overstate the encouragement I feel when writers like Davis and Steyn produce essays like this.

Hanson is my favorite political writer, just before Mark Steyn. We've never needed pundits like VDH with a comprehensive understanding of history more than we do now.
I didn't see this piece until this a.m. on NRO. Was going to post myself until my search turned up this one.

At peace marches swastikas appear painted over the Star of David. Meanwhile our "liberal" columnists defame Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, William Kristol, and the bogeymen known as "the neoconservatives.""the Jews".
Yeah, I noticed it. It's hard NOT to notice after the 500th article speculating coyly about what makes Perle and Wolfowitz tick, and implying that there is something sinister in the fact that they're (horrors!) working in the Defense department.
One has to wonder why Perle and Wolfowitz are repeatedly singled out for attention in these articles.
On second thought, one doesn't have to wonder at all.

Hanson is my favorite political writerMine too. He has a way of putting into words, with an incredible command of history, thoughts that I don't have the ability to put into words by myself.
I particularly like his thread of thought that began...
Western Europe has almost gone the way of Weimar. Amoral, disarmed, and socialist, it seeks ephemeral peace at all costs, never long-term security, much less justice. Furious that history has not ended in perpetual peace and leisure, it has woken up angry that Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair disturbed its fanciful slumber with chatter about germs and genocide.
and ended with...
The world, not America, has gone off the deep end just as it did some 70 years ago when faced with similar choices between cheap rhetoric and real sacrifice.
The Western Europian psuedo-intellectual elite are completely unable to perceive "sacrafice" in response to an urgent need. Their logic is so inescapably bound to their own self-serving interests that they alway view the actions of leaders like President Bush through this cynical mind-set.
