New Alabama GOP Governor (Fmr. Congressman Bob Riley) accused of 'Christian' Terrorism [my title]
AP/Las Vegas Sun ^ | 2/27/03 | AP

Gov. Bob Riley and his staff have begun weekly Bible studies in his Capitol office, a move critics decry as a troubling display of religion in the halls of state power.

[snip]

But Larry Darby, Alabama director for American Atheists, said there is no way the classes can be truly voluntary as long as the governor is involved.

"It's a form of Christian terrorism," Darby said.

Darby is a doofus

Do you know anything about this guy? It's been a while since I worked for the GOP, but lot's of those folks we knew of. This one is a new one to me.

Too bad Morris Dees didn't say it.

Yeah, freedom of religon is another one of those quaint notions of the Founding Fathers.

Now if staffers were prevented from promotion or subject to punishment for not participating, I would have a problem with it. But bible studies themselves are so far removed from that it is reprehensible for this moron to scream terorism.

Yep, the governor terrorized me this very morning. I was listening to the radio on my way to work (in Montgomery) and Gov. Riley was on a talk show (Kevin whats-his-name on 1440 AM).

Anyway, some lady called in and said she was running a program for young girls which included prayer and reading the Bible. The governor ENCOURAGED HER TO CONTINUE! I was so terrorized that I have been unable to work all day and Freeped instead. :)

You would not believe how many people try and attack Christians for their beliefs. It's not just liberals doing that either any more!!!!!

Don't know him personally. I've seen his name a few times concerning the usual Atheist Spew. He was one of the complainers about Moore's Granite tablets. After Moore touted 9/11 was God punishing America recently, jumping on the stupid bus I have some ideas concerning his tablets and where he could put them. But whenever someone publisc acts a little religious, Darby is touting church and state.... He isn't on the Governors staff so I don't see how prayer meetings will affect him. It's just the old confusion these bozo's go for. They think it's "Freedom from Religion" rather than "of". State forced religion was what the drafters intended to avoid, not a Godless government. Maybe Darby has a website like www.imabigdumbdoofus.commie

See you later

This happens to me sometimes even though I am not very religious. People see my obvious Irish heritage or hear the word Catholic and feel free to disparage at will. I can imagine other Christians get the same or worse treatment including fundamentalists and mormons.

Dees is a strange cookie. If he was a conservative he would of already been minced in the media.

He gets a big free ride.
